what a great idea those games were - probably the very first of national games 
I was too young to appreciate or follow them 

Having been to Scottsdale in Northern Tassie it is amazing to think it could not only be competing against the top teams from each of the WAFL, VFL & SANFL but it could also be the best team in Tassie that year.
I reckon it would be the equivalent size of York here in WA!

Glenorchy , Sandy Bay , Cooee , Ulverstone , New Norfolk but a lot of those sort of clubs have disappeared now mate

Yes mate very true sadly.
Cooee merged with the Burnie Hawks to become the Burnie Dockers.
The old Tassie SFL is pretty much just teams from the Greater Hobart area now (a couple from outside in Launceston & North Launceston). Devonport & Burnie went back to their old competition the NWFU, Smithton im not even sure if they have a side anymore, New Norfolk pretty much play in the Amateurs now, Sandy Bay disbanded years ago, City South & East Launceston merged and just play in the NTFL, Hobart merged with North Hobart, Glenorchy struggling for numbers.
Its bloody sad how Tassie footy has been destroyed in the last few decades!
