Yep, Claremont a flawed design, ground gets little sun in winter because of the apartments, hence the poor ground conditions.

Leederville has poor drainage due to the eagles wanting to train in Victorian conditions, ie mud.
The outer at Leederville is ok, Grandstand still one of the best in the League to watch footy IMHO, lights crap, need replacing.

I'm not sure if that's still the go but looked impressive in the development stage.

BC it would be a great shame if that tin shelter is sacrificed, they are ideal on stinking hot days or when it’s pissing down. Any chance you could grab a chunk of the old Leederville TAFE behind the goals? What is directly behind it? That’s the worst thing about Leederville apart from the lingering stench of garlic, the tight narrow and steep banks behind the goals at each end.

Surely the old grandstand can’t last forever? It’s one of the reasons Perth’s is coming down.

City of Vincent is broke. And they've committed to upgrading Beatty Park Aquatic which they don't have sufficient funds for.

This is why they seem reluctant to do anything to Leederville Oval - they simply do not have the money.

One might say Colin Barnett was right to try and merge councils during his reign, however COV remembers well that the area that is now Vincent was very much neglected in its old City of Perth days hence they were caught between the old rock and a hard place.

The clubs realising this have put the peppercorn offer on the table, however the council's DD will be doing backflips because they know if either club can't pull its weight then they'll be liable for picking up the pieces - and its a legitimate concern.

Part of the problem also is a total disconnect between council admin and the councilors. Admin are hellbent on meeting their KPI's and making themselves look good, whereas some councilors are sympathetic to community needs/desires, but have lost control. They are weak and it will see Leederville Oval decimated - as you are currently seeing Floreat Athena's ground (former Velodrome) being decimated - the old grandstand - the last remnant of the velodrome which SHOULD Be heritage listed - will most likely be demolished by these shortsighted maniacs for the sake of about 100k investment.

Fight for it.

I wonder if the club would consider moving from Leederville if the council want to leave it to rot. Would subi consider a move back to subi oval, the WACA or perhaps a shared arrangement at Joondalup (hope not).

Still think it is or has the potential to be the best WAFL ground.

Ideally subi should of moved to Claremont in a shared revamp, but that chance has been lost now.
I cannot see Subi Oval ever being used again now as its mainly a school oval, and there are zero facilities there and would require a heap more expense to rebuild, in saying that the surface is vastly superior to Leederville, and the location in the heart of Subi means a lot more as well.
Joondalup has been touted before and might work, but if I had a chance I would be looking at a revamped shared WACA, with a magic surface, awesome lights and reduced shared costs and probably good income streams from other events it offers a big future.

TBH I think City of Vincent just sees Leedeville oval as a redevelopment site, you could fit 1000s of apartments on the site, they must be losing a fortune on it over the last few decades.

You only have to look at the half finished revamp of the ground, it had great potential then feel in a hole, the entrance gate on the Loftus St side sums it up, one rusted old turnstile dumped there under a canvas tent, and the sand pit that was supposed to be landscaped and ended up just being covered with a pile of mulch after sitting there un kept for years.

Bazz when Subi were looking at options post the end of their Subi Lease, Co-habiting with the Tiges at an upgraded Claremont oval was top of the list. Much lobbying was done by both clubs with Cl Council but they were only interested in maxing the potential dollars from developing the oval and moving CFC permanently to the Showgrounds or somewhere else, a very second rate facility for footy. We also looked at Kingsway but that was pretty much a greenfields situation, starting from scratch was hugely expensive, but a JV with WP and some government money invested could have been a very good solution. When the Leederville option came up to co-hab with the Ferals we snapped it up. But as you say the programme to upgrade the oval is barely half done, desperately need better lights and the Eagles implemented clay base surface is a disgrace once the wet sets in and the wear and tear of two clubs playing and training on it plus Womens comp plus some 16's games. The Government and the WAFC should have strongly pushed an agenda of joint tenancies to reduce costs to clubs and maximising use of 4 selected suburban grounds, one in the east, either Basso or lathlain for SD /Pth, one in the south for EF/SF, either Moss St or Freo oval, one in the west for Cl/Su, Claremont Oval and one in the north or central for EP/WP, either leedo or Joody .... and Peel should never have happened.

I reckon EP should go to Kingsway,

It is not that far from ballajura etc given a fair few roads join up with Hepburn Avenue.
