Interesting history that has been perverted by the manufacturers of guns that make Billions each year from their sale.

The NRA was originally a Gun Safety/Responsible Ownership organisation, they taught how to handle and store guns with care. This was in the 1950;s when gun ownership in the US was still considered taboo, and in that time the NRA was truly "conservative" in that I mean that gun ownership and use should be carefully handled and not taken lightly.

Yeah 1871, the reason was the level of marksmanship and rifle knowledge was found to be so poor during the Civil War by the average American that they wanted a group to help lift knowledge/skills.
