Can’t stand Whatley and his claptrap. Would love Glenn to give it another run though. Would also love to hear Skull as a regular.

Last year he called WAFL games for the online radio station whose name escapes me (Kix digital?) I think he also runs a consultancy where he does speaking engagements about mental health to various groups. I also heard him do a breakfast show on one of the community stations recently as a fill in so he is still involved in media. Glen was diagnosed with a serious mental health disease several years back when he was saved from suicide by a vigilant park ranger. He talks about his experiences publicly to try and break down the stigma of mental illness.

That descriptive is spot on mikeh. Glen Mitchell is a busy man these days. Does a lot of free-lance work in the media. Also a regular newspaper columnist. Apparently can be heard regularly on various radio stations across the country discussing sporting issues.
And as Bazza commented, would imagine his abc days are over.

Sorry for getting off topic.

What Newspaper does he write for ?

It sounds like its mainly community based stuff rather than heavy commercial media.

Whatley is staying on AFL 360 which is great, he is a class act on Fox Footy which doesn't have much class at all.

He is finished with offsiders which is a pity he was the only decent one on the show, rest are NSW and Qld hacks that have NFI about Aussie Rules.

I also saw him on a Sky news show(foxtel) last year commenting on sport.

Yes that's correct. Different Community and Country newspapers. Also has written articles in the worst. He's obviously a well accomplished writer too.
The main stream media is mostly all bloody useless crap nowadays!!!

If he is so well accomplished how come the only gig he gets is a suburban free hand out paper?

And perhaps not being in the main stream media, allows him more time for himself?

He was only ever local ABC mate even going well, he wasn't ever that big a deal to start with, fact is he is just not that good or in demand or up to it, certainly not any more. As I said 6PR gave him a go and then flicked him.

Hmmm......?

He joined ABC Sport in Perth in January 1990.

He commentated at four Olympic Games – Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 – principally calling cycling and co-hosted the coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies in Athens and Beijing.

He also commentated the track and field for ABC-TV at the 1996 and 2000 Paralympic Games and worked on four Commonwealth Games – Kuala Lumpur 1998, Manchester 2002, Melbourne 2006 and Delhi 2010 – calling cycling and co-hosting the opening and closing ceremonies at each.

Mitchell commentated nearly 200 Test and limited-overs cricket matches, covering 13 overseas tours to England, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.

He was well known for his repartee with on air with former Australian Test spinner, Kerry O'Keeffe.

Mitchell called over 900 AFL and WAFL games for the ABC on both television and radio and NBL and WNBL on both mediums.

During his career with the ABC he commentated over 20 sports including world championships in cycling, water polo and triathlon.

What is your criteria for "good" and "up to it" Bazz?
