Very sad news on hearing Max Walker has passed away this morning aged 68.
Great cricketer for Australia & Victoria and also played a lot of games for Melbourne in the VFL after coming from Hobart Tasmania originally.
Cricket- 34 Tests-138 wickets, 17 ODI-20 wickets for Australia.
Football- 85 games-23 goals for Melbourne.
Was also a fine cricket commentator on 9 and host of Wide World Of Sports and an author of many top selling books.

Very sad news. Loved watching this bloke play as a kid with his wrong footed bowling action. Almost broke my ankle trying to emulate him in the nets. Great observer and commentator on the game as well.

When people of my vintage remember the 1974 - 75 series when we smashed England they immediately think of the brutal bowling of Lillee and Thomson who decimated England. However Max Walker was also a very effective bowler in that series and kept the pressure on the English batsmen and also was a wicket taker.

Taken too soon. RIP

Sad News - An icon of 70s cricket and of TV commentary and general Australian life.

Larger than life sort of a joker.

RIP

Max was a real character like Thomo,Okeefe.Walters,I Chapple.A memroble era for Australian cricket both on and off the pitch.Just another piece of the Aussie culture we all grew up with has disapeared a bit more with the passing of Maxi.

Quite an accomplished bloke as well, a qualified architect that had a keen interest in it all his life , when he toured he would spend a lot of time looking at buildings, writer and public speaker - also a good VFL Player, was often portrayed as a bit goofy but in fact was quite the opposite.
