To me this is madness, the town is literally dieing , retail is stuffed and shops are up for lease all over town.

Despite bringing in 1000s of people the council has decided to kill it off.

Complete madness.

Not saying I disagree with you Bazza but how much money were those crackers in the sky costing?

DW the payoff is in the 100's of thousands of $$ that get spent down there by punters who come down to watch the fireworks, one of the biggest nights for hotels bars and cafes of the year.

While one can sympathise with the indigenous people about what Australia day means to them, it must also be recognized what Australia day means to non indigenous Australians. Recognize the issues of the Indigenous people by a statement of recognition prior to the event but don't allow a minority position to control the majority, something labor and the Greens are so ready to do.

Fireworks don't come cheap SS...not sure how much they spend down there and the size of the fireworks show hence my question to Bazza.

Freo Chamber of Commerce estimates the event is worth 2.5 Million to the Town, which wil be lost.

The Old Coles building has been closed and derelict now for years

Woolworths just closed down their new store, that is now gone and vacant.

Myer are long gone

Word is Coles Woolstores are closing and Target also going..

The council are killing the joint.,
