What a shame to see the demise of an Iconic Australian brand name. I am no economist but after reading the attached article it seems almost criminal that it got to this point. Although the article states that the Private equity owner Anchorage were operating within the Laws..Interesting stuff and also makes you wonder who is next. I feel sorry for everyone who will lose their jobs. Just shows big business doesn't care about the little man and I hope those in charge of Anchorage drop dead from massive heart attacks whilst on their luxury boats etc etc and the like as Karma hopefully strikes them down!

SD that just further proves how pathetic our politicians are that they allow laws that allow people to float a company to raise millions, give themselves a generous salary plus bonuses etc.... yet be totally unaccountable when it all goes tits up.

I guess the world has moved on a lot on what Dick Smith used to really specialise in, that was during the CB craze and the Electronics Hobby Craze, long beofre the Internet hit and computers took off, they then tried to flog TVs and PCs etc up against giants like JB Hifi, Harvey Norman Good Guys etc al, basically they lost the market share and direction they had 30 or 40 yrs ago...

A lot of the Hobby Electronic type stuff you just order direct of the net these days from Radio Shack etc online stores , not that its a big market now anyway.

My local Dick Smith shop dissapeared a few months ago, it was always quiet and just next door at JB Hifi it was flat out so it sums it up.

Yeh this is all true Bazza, but someone needs to be accountable. plus they were opening new shops all around the country, even though they closed yours. I have heard rumours that all is not well with JB`s or HN either

I wouldn't buy anything now mate because there would be too much risk for honouring warranties and repairs etc. My local store was a ghost town today at midday - seriously not one customer in there..very sad for an Iconic Aussie brand name

This what shits me, big business buys a business because its profitable, they then put their culture into that business and it doesn't work and the business suffers so they sell it. Westfarmers did this to Master dairy and WA Salvage where I spent twenty six years. JAY CAR is what Dick Smith should of been. Kodak was another company that lost its way but they survived.

Retailers are finding it tough competing with internet and all sorts of costs and competition. Retailers have always come and gone...Walshes, Freecorns, Boans, Aherns, Tom the Cheap, Moores, Charlie Craters, Stammers, Foodland, just a few ghosts of the past.
