I tell you what I would have done I would have picked players on form not reputation. Why bother keeping stats anymore when they get ignored?

The selectors needed to be bold with their selections. Lyon is the No. 1 spinner (whether you agree or not is another matter). He's an offie so they needed a leftie - Steven O'Keefe has the best shield record this season. But no they go for nuffie dart thrower Doherty because he's a good bloke and will do what he is told.

They needed to be bold and pick an emerging leggie to blood - Adam Zampa. Not a bloke like Steve Smith who fair dinkum is a very, very average leggie (like Cameron White who was taken on the last tour to India and embarrassed himself). So average in fact that he was contemplating abandoning leg spin for off spin before the season started!!! His blue cap no doubt helped enormously in his selection.

Sorry MO wasn't meaning to come across as having a go at you.

Yep, they will definitely have to play 3 quicks and Lyon because they don't have the cattle to play two spinners against batsmen who can play modest spin in their sleep.

Everyone??????

Thats not what the rankings say.

So would Herath be an offspinner if he was bowling at a left handed batsmen?

yes and despite the rankings Ajmal was not nominated for any ICC award, everyone knows the reason for this.

Herath is listen on cric info as a Slow left-arm orthodox and Swan is Right-arm offbreak, no mention there of what they are when bowling to right or left handbatsman.
