well...it's official...the NBN is an unmitigated disaster which looks like finishing 12 years behind schedule and $30 billion over budget. Apparently the previous government didn't prepare a business plan or even do a cost benefit analysis..all very necessary I would have thought when spending that much taxpayers money. a total shambles so we can all surf for porn a nano-second quicker.

BC will you try to be fair and balanced (not the Fox News variety either) and go through an analysis of how well the respective Barnett and Abbott Governments are going with respect to broken promises?

Whats wrong with the Net now??? Not even 15 years ago it used to take 9min to download a 100kb image at 2400bps from a Bulletin Board System! :woohoo:

Ah that's right, we are still slower than "other" 3rd world nations.

MikeXU1 perhaps you should stop stirring BC and put your wooden spoon back in its holster.

Rang up NBN Co and asked when it would get past my area a few weeks ago and they said 2018!

The NBN has been a shambles ever since that nutter Rudd planned it on th eback of his napkin flying off to one of his UN gigs.

I wonder if he will broadcast a national apology and make us all feel better.

42...this thread is not an all encompassing assessment of any government...it's a response to a report that came out yesterday from a former senior Telstra official on the progress of the NBN roll out. If you would like to start a thread on the success or failure of governments past and present, please be my guest. More to the point, what are your views on the NBN rollout?

They should have done the areas that needed it first, mainly in country towns and remote locations. Its always had me puzzled why they never look at South Korea and how they have gone about creating the fastest internet speeds on the planet.

Also, with the proposed plans for the NBN under the Liberals, you might as well go back to a dial up modem, because the speeds wont be any quicker than they are at the moment.
Thats if they decide to stop having reviews after reviews.

You will be lucky to get it by 2018, the liberals want to get rid of it. You may have had a chance of actually getting it with the former government now if you do get it, it will be nothing better than we have currently now.

I'm not saying it didn't have faults under Labour but at least they had the vision and the balls to start it.

Don't forget if Johnny Howard had split Telstra into a Wholesale and Retail company we wouldn't be in this mess to begin with begin with.

What should have happened is they should have targeted it had businesses who are screaming out for faster broadband. I have a customer at work who is in a business area in Perth and they are going to have pay through the roof to get a decent connection because of the cables in the ground just not being up to scratch.

The size of Sth Korea compared with Australia's size would hardly be comparing apples with apples.
