Well so much for all the scaremongering by the media about the AstraZeneca vaccine blood clot risks scaring people off from having it, delaying the vaccination rates for the whole country, it turns out according to one study in the Middle East that AZ comes out on top by a fair margin when it comes to preventing hospitalisation and death compared to Pfizer and other vaccines.

We probably would have been a lot closer to the 70 - 80% mark by now if it wasn’t for the scare campaign by the media and the health chief freaks and Premiers like ours here who stuck to the “I’ll back the health advice” line.

The first person who brought the delta variant in from Sydney here several months ago had her first shot of AZ 6 weeks earlier. I reckon that’s why she wasn’t a super spreader. Sydney wouldn’t have been in this mess if everyone didn’t pussy foot around over the AZ.

China’s Sinopharm and Russia’s Sputnik vaccines came out stone motherless last by a big margin, no mention of Moderna and Novax but I imagine they perform similarly to Pfizer.

It's pretty important to note it has a 70% layer of protection in general and lasts a lot longer than Pfizer - also today NZ had a likely death from Pfizer although there may have been health conditions of that person

If you want to do anything at all including little things like shopping you'll need your "passport" is the last thing

Looking forward now to my second dose of AZ

Pleased that I had the 2 AZ jabs.  Now, they need to find out how long it lasts before you need another shot.

About a week ago I heard Dr Ross Walker talk about the difference between AZ and Pfizer. He said it’s a bit like the tortoise and the hare. Initially Pfizer comes out in front after the first jab with about 80% effectiveness compared to I think it was 67% for AZ but over time AZ catches up and eventually overtakes Pfizer.

He also said if you’ve been fully vaxed with AZ, don’t go and get AZ for your 3rd booster shot, get Pfizer. It’s much more effective and offers the highest rate of protection. I assume that means anyone who’s been fully vaxed with Pfizer should get AZ for their booster shot.

Thats excatly what my GP said, AZ is a slow burner and next year have a third of one of the others Moderna or Phiz, and you will be up to around 100%. If you've have Phiz first rather than AZ you wont get the same build up.

That's good Baz but what's the plan when the new doomsday South African C 1.2 variant hits? The one that is twice as infectious as delta and no vaccine touches it

theres aways a new variant, doomsday scenario that people like Mcghoo love to scare people with, I'm over it, anyway the Doc reckons the cross vaccination method pretty much covers the variants.
