The 2012/2013 WNBL season is well under way now. I notice the West Coast Waves lost over the weekend. At three quarter time the Waves were 41 to Bulleen 53 and looked to be still in the game. Unfortunate to see the Waves shut down and over-run in the last quarter and lost scoring 50 to Bulleen's 78.
The West Coast Waves next travel away and play Townsville on Sat 10 Nov.
Good luck ladies.

Round 6 of the WNBL saw the West Coast Waves take on the long road trip to Queensland. First game was against Logan, whose previous games have been very competitive. After a confident start, the Waves held a narrow lead at half time going into the main break with a 7 point buffer. Scoring 34 pts to Logan's 27.
The Waves outscored their opponents in the 3rd and 4th quarters going onto win their first away game this season. Final scores Logan 56 points to the WCW 71 points.
The second game of the road trip whereby the Waves were hosted by Townsville. Sadly the Waves could not maintain the winning form and went down to Townsville
Final scores were the Fire 79 and the WCW 62.
The team is missing injured pair Smith and Harper but still have an excellent mix of experienced and youthful players.
Round 7 shows the Waves next play at home on Sat 17 Nov against Dandenong.

Round 7 of the Womens National Basketball League whereby some of the matches were hard fought games. The West Coast Waves started slowly in their match against Dandenong and did not recover. Scoring 61 to Dandenong 85.
The blistering start to the match between Adelaide and the Rangers, it looked all over at half time for the home team. Adelaide played some good basketball in the second half to get themselves back in the game but Dandenong hung on to win by 9 pts.
Other results from the round were:

Sydney Uni 76 def by Bendigo 91
Logan 76 def by Bulleen 85
Townsville 64 def by Bulleen 70
Canberra 71 def. by Bendigo 80
After Round 7, the Championship ladder shows...

Bendigo
Dandenong
Adelaide
& Canberra, making up the top 4 teams.

Bulleen
Townsville
Logan
West Coast
Sydney Uni

I notice the West Coast Waves went into Round 9 full of confidence after their very narrow unlucky loss the previous week. After a slow start, they never recovered and eventually lost by the thirteen points. Townsville scoring 78 to the Waves 65. They next play away against Bulleen on the 7th Dec.
Canberras woes continued losing both their matches. Adelaide defeated Townsville
Sydney won against Logan and Bendigo had a 12 point win over Bulleen.

Bendigo, Dandenong & Adelaide seem to be entrenched in the top three with
Bulleen,Townsville or Canberra most likely to vie for the fourth spot on the Championship ladder.

Logan, Sydney Uni and the Waves complete the rest of the ladder.

Round 10 saw the West Coast Waves on the long road trip playing Bulleen on Friday night. It was always going to be a tall order for the Waves and the score-line of Bulleen 73 to the Waves 52 reflected this. The Waves stopped off in Adelaide and the Lightning easily accounted for the Waves 85 to 48.

It's hard to believe we're halfway through the season. One more round before the Christmas/ New Year break. The West Coast Waves at home put in a magnificent effort to defeat Canberra. Although their goal shooting let them down at times, they outscored the opponents in every period. Wallbutton having an excellent outing. The team scoring 33 field Goals, One 3 Pointer and 8 free throws. Full time score saw the Waves 75 to the Capitals 62. Lets hope they carry the momentum forward into the second half of the season. The Waves (at home again) next play Adelaide.
Other results from the round are:

Townsville 56 def Bendigo 52
Bulleen 75 to Sydney Uni 79
Dandenong 102 def Sydney Uni 79
Logan 61 lose to Bendigo 69
And Canberras' other road game saw Adelaide 70 def Canberra 52

The 2012/13 season has been disappointing for the West Coast Waves.
Finishing the season with only 4 wins.
After the qualifying rounds, the Championship ladder reads

Bendigo
Dandenong
Adelaide
Townsville

Bulleen
Logan
Sydney Uni
Canberra
Waves

And the do-or-die first semi-final was played this afternoon between Adelaide and Townsville. Previous Meetings between the two teams: Adelaide 2-Townsville 1
• Rd3: Adelaide 80-65 Townsville at Townsville RSL Stadium
• Rd9: Adelaide 90-75 Townsville at Adelaide Arena
• Rd13: Townsville 75-70 Adelaide at Townsville RSL Stadium
It was the Townsville Fire doing the unthinkable and accounted for the home town favourites Adelaide 60-53. The Lightning going into todays match on a seven game winning streak. The Fire came out blazing from the start. Led by their captain Flanagan who scored 8 of Townville’s first 10 points, it was a team effort as they rattled the Lightning’s big guns, dictating the tempo and playing with a self-belief that has become their signature this season.
With the scores at 14-11 in Townsville’s favour at quarter time, it was evident the Fire were treating the game as a Grand Final. They refused to be intimidated by a Lightning side that boasted five Australian representatives.
The half time score read 30- 27 in Townsvilles favour.
Third quarter saw both teams try to keep possession of the ball and the match became scrappy at times as Townsville continued to upset any momentum Adelaide attempted. The Fires’ Jess Foley came to the fore ably assisting Flanagan leading the team to a 3 point lead at the final break.
The final quarter saw the battle intensify resulting in Townsvilles Adair and Adelaides Batkovic fouling out late in the game and the Fires captain Flanagan being taken from the court after a nasty head clash with Marino, but the Fire always looked in control. It was a well-deserved win for a team who came into the match as underdogs in a David and Goliath battle and won.

Bendigo Spirit advance to Grand Final

Bendigo jumped out the blocks, racing to an 11-4 lead as the home crowd threatened to lift the roof off Bendigo Stadium, with import Kelsey Griffin and Gabe Richards causing the Rangers frontcourt plenty of headaches.
Dandenong found their rhythm as the contest opened up, with their aggressive running game a highlight. Dandenong turned a 19-19 quarter time score line into a 44-34 lead at the main interval.
The Spirit dominated the third quarter scoring 24 points to Dandenongs 9, headlined by three triples from Bendigo's red-hot scorer Kelly Wilson.
That gave Bendigo the advantage heading into the final period and they weathered the Rangers storm to reach the WNBL Grand Final to be played in a fortnights time.

BEN 19 15 24 20 Total 78 points

DAN 19 25 9 18 Total 71 points

Dandenong will play the Townsville Fire in the Preliminary Final.
