All time membership broken today - just over 7000 members.
Tickets on sale for their first game at the new Perth Arena went on sale today, holds 12,0000 only 800 left.

Not a huge basketball fan but well done Perth Wildcats and the state governments involved in the new Perth Arena.
I know it was over budget and over time and I will be chastised for these comments but finally a world class arena in Perth and something to be proud of. As a generation Y person I am very proud that we have this arena.

Once the city link project is complete I can see the Perth Arena be similar to Federation Square in Melbourne.
Let's know get on with building the new football stadium and NIB stadium and we can truly sit behind Melbourne and Sydney as a sporting mecca.

Now let's bring back the V8s, Australian Rally and have a go at the F1s!

Excuse my ignorance, but how to you fit 7,000 people around a small basketball court?

Used to love watching them years ago when it was telecast. Does any station cover it now?

I remember they pulled 14,000 to Parry Field when it was the only International Baseball stadium in Australia. How many do they pull now the baseball is out at Gossies?

I went to the Narrabundah "Fort" last Friday to watch the game between Canberra and Sydney. Was a fair crowed of around 2,000 - 2,500 - Excellent facility!

Mike.

i have only been to a handful of Wildcat games and enjoy the atmosphere of them, not a big enough basketball fan to become a member. Look forward to seeing the new stadium when back in Perth next time, great move by the Cats to move there.
Will be interesting to see how the stadium handles music concerts.

Got home from work late to hear the last three minutes of the basketball being broadcast on the radio. Wildcats beaten in Perth Arena debut. More than 11,000 fans piled into the Arena to set a new attendance record for the National Basketball League in Perth but most left disappointed after the Adelaide 36ers caused a boilover. Adelaide scored 69 to Perth 65. Apparently the lead changed five times in the last quarter.

A lead changing 5 times in the last Q a good thing for the fans on the opening night even though the Wildcats lost, it looked good on the tele and reminded me of the old days watching the Cats on Friday nights on Ch 7
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Yes that is right.
Apparently the match was a close tussle throughout. One point the difference at half time and one point separating the teams at three quarter time. The 36er's held firm in Q4 to score the 24 points for the term whilst the Cats managed 19 points for the last term.

I hear on the reliable grapevine the Wildcats had a win against the Sydney Kings this evening. Scoring 75 to 56. Apparently bringing a 3 game winning streak by the Kings to an end. By all accounts the game being a scrappy affair earlier in the match but the guys came good in the end.

Long road for the Perth Wildcats...

ON the back of a supreme defensive effort the New Zealand Breakers have beaten the Perth Wildcats 79-67 in game one of the NBL grand final series.
The win puts the Breakers 1-0 ahead in the best-of-three series and in a strong position to claim their third consecutive NBL title.

The Breakers limited the Wildcats to a 28 per cent field goalshooting percentage at Auckland's Vector Arena, and got points when they needed, with Daryl Corletto leading the way, to score a comfortable win.

Perth now need to win their home game next Friday to take the series to a winner-takes-all third game the following week.

Perth had beaten the Breakers in three games out of four in the regular season and started like they meant to continue that record, scoring the first six points and leading 12-5 during the first quarter. But the Breakers defence tightened and they dominated the rest of the quarter, leading 18-15 at the first break.

The second quarter started the way the first ended, with some sharp work from Cedric Jackson and a spectacular dunk from Tom Abercrombie putting the Breakers nine points ahead. Kevin Lisch helped get the Wildcats back within six with some silky play and two points courtesy of an unsportsmanlike foul called on Mika Vukona, but the Breakers' defence continued to be strong and the home team went to halftime 44-35 in front.

The Breakers took their lead out to 14 at one point in the third quarter, though it was subsequently cut to eight after Lisch and Shawn Redhage took on more responsibility. But by three-quarter time the lead was back out to 11 points, and it might have been more if the Breakers were more accurate from the foul line.

The Wildcats looked like they were getting some momentum when they pulled the score back to 64-57 early in the fourth quarter, but the New Zealand Breakers got five quick points from Corletto to take a 71-59 lead and they coasted through the last two minutes.
It appears the Wildcats will have work to do to take the Grand Final series from here.
