While he wouldn't need to climb very high to achieve the "heights" of the (sacked, and corrupt) incumbent, I predict this is a mere stepping stone for Basil the Goose towards state, but more likely, federal politics.

Who knows, with the support he is likely to get from Channel Sue & Rick, together with the Worst, in just a few short years he could be handing out more corrupt sports rorts money on behalf of the conservatives.

It doesn't bear thinking.

A good mate of mine is a senior journo at Ch7 and is not one to give praise lightly, he has plenty of stories of some at Ch7 who are numpties (no names no packdrill) but he says Bazz is a pretty decent bloke and way smarter than his onscreen persona may indicate. I say good on bazz for having a go and not just sitting back taking cheap shots at those in public service, he's actually trying to do something about things.

There's a few throwing their hat in the ring for this gig. The perks must still be pretty good.

Here's your first simple task Basil if you get in. Put half a dozen decent toilets in the farrrking Perth CBD. There are fewer toilets today than there were in the 70's/80's when the population was about a third.

Toilets at Town Hall Clock - gone
Corner of the Esplanade and Barrack - gone
Toilet block on Terrace Rd, Langley Park - disgusting, that's even if you can negotiate through the waterlogged mud in winter to get to it and it's right next to a play ground.

How any Lord Mayor can show their face in public and plead with people to come to the city when they can't even provide basic amenities is beyond belief.

See him around the City , his media persona is a world away from the bloke himself, surly, unfriendly and not engaging with the public at all.

Cannot see him being much of a Mayor.
