Do we just get the best available or do we get someone with a Fremantle identity? I heard Percy Johnson this morning say Fremantle should try and poach Jamie Graham from the Eagles, was an ex WC player of course but is an ex South Freo player. Percy wasn't suggesting as a senior coach but start getting Fremantle people back into Fremantle was his point.

Then there is Justin Longmuir who I think is a Collingwood assistant currently and the big names that must be considered I think are Peter Sumich and John Worsfold. I know what some will say, no thanks but both these blokes have the runs on the board as players and coaches and they are Fremantle through and through. The other one I would seriously consider is Don Pyke, though he seems to have turned Adelaide around for now. Same goes for Woosha but a big Melbourne club like Essendon having an ex WCE captain coaching them doesn't sit well with a lot of people in the Melbourne fraternity though I noticed Mathew Lloyd on the Sunday Footy show digesting apple pie when asked if he thinks Essendon should still sack John Worsfold at the end of the year? He said no not after winning 4 of the last 5 I would keep him on. Lol good onya Lloydy.

Could we, should we be talking to Jarrod Schofield? I know he's moved to Port Adelaide where he is an assistant only in his first year and his son is in their under age academy but he ran Subi like an AFL club and has far more experience in charge of his own team than most assistant coaches.

Then there are candidates from other states including a few who have already been sacked such as Brett Ratten (who i think was hard done by), Michael Voss and recently sacked Brad Scott. Enough for now, I've got the ball rolling.

I think any of those three would be good picks with Scott and Voss leading the charge. I also agree it would be advantageous to have Freo people as assistants with someone like Sumich as the most senior.

Lyon will probably chase the Carlton job for more years if Freo dont extend him again.

No thanks to Brad Scott BC. I can’t stand him or his brother for that matter. Unfortunately NM and Carlton are going so well since appointing caretaker coaches they are likely to be appointed full time at the end of the year. It would be ideal if Carlton approached Ross Lyon and he agreed to part ways with Fremantle and relieve the club of having to pay him out.

I wonder if Mark Harvey would consider leaving the Dons to come back? ;-)

Not a chance in hell that will happen BC. That experience left a sour taste in Mark Harvey's mouth about being a senior coach and there's too much bad blood there. Pavlich was quite damning of Mark Harvey's methods and heaped praise on the change under Ross Lyon. The worry for me is did Peter Sumich and Fremantle end on bad terms? Particularly with Steve Rosich. It would be unfair on Suma if anyone at the club has any bias against Sumich because he and RL had a falling out.

But do you think he can coach? I would of thought that whether you like a bloke or not, doesnt come into it. If he did coach Freo and they became succesful, would you still hate him? maybe so, but no doubt youd be able to look past that if the team is going well.

My point being, Fremantle need to look at the best availble, not the most liked.

I assume ruddiger you are referring to Brad Scott. Why would he be the best candidate? He's just been sacked and NM are unbeaten under a caretaker coach 5 games on and gone from no chance to play finals to an outside chance. If you speak to most NM supporters they will say it's about 3 or 4 years too late.

If I was a Freo supporter (shiver, shake, tremble) I’d be careful about wanting either of the Scotts. One has done nothing at North’s and the other has been in a protected realm. Give him a team like SK, Carlton or Melbourne and he’d probably end up as another sacked coach.

Yes DD, i was refering to Brad Scott.

Firstly, i am a NM supporter, and i thought exactly what you said regarding Scott, he had taken NM as far as could and i belleve should of been gone 2-3 years ago. (bit like how i feel about Ross Lyon. has taken Freo as far as he can, but its time to move on)

Thats not to say i think hes a bad coach, as considering the list North has had over the last few years, he probably over achieved to an extent. How often does a coach being sacked and the team suddenly turns it aroubnd and they look re-invigerated. i think we need to wait and see where North finish come end of the year. Having said that i like what i see with Shaw, and they could probably do worse that appoint him as full time coach.

I actually dont think he would be the best coach for Freo (id prefer they go after Longmire) i was merely pointing out that whether we, as supporters, liking a person is relevent to his coaching abilities. personally, im no big fan of Scott (either of them) but i thought he did pretty good at North, considering the cattle he had, but as stated, hung around too long and my view is he "lost the players" they didnt seem to be playing for him any more.

A recycled coach is a danger in itself, by recycled I mean one that has been let go, move on to another club for whatever reason or just sacked, Eade, Lyon or Walls are some that spring to mind. I cannot recall anyone of the recycled group doing all that well but not being a great follower of the AFL teams I could well be wrong.

If you look back at the last premierships even as far back as 2008 they have all been won by assistants who have been promoted from within or selected and surely that sends a note.

Lyon is a recycled coach and whilst there things he does well there are lots of things he doesn't do well and Fremantle as a club and business need to move him on! In my opinion and I must say I have nothing concrete to hang may hat on but I reckon at the outset of this season Bell was an influence and one that had a positive effect but of late Lyon seems to have reacted in his own way and that influence is being diluted .
