What a waste of talent that's the end of Shane Yarrans career. Very serious stabbing charge today.

If he is convicted and that looks likely, he won't be playing anywhere because he will be in jail.

July 2015 apparently. A man was stabbed with a broken bottle in an incident outside a pub but Yarran has only recently been identified as a person of interest in the enquiry. He is entitled to the presumption of innocence but it is obviously going to take a fair chunk of the season next year for the court processes to take place. Probably the end of his AFL career as others have said. A pity as I thought he showed a fair bit in the 2nd half of the 2016 season.

This puts the Dockers in a difficult position in that Yarran is on the list for 2017 so basically they will be one man short. Are they allowed to promote a rookie I wonder or is this only in the event of an injury? If he is acquitted of the charge I wonder if they would keep him into 2018 given that he is 27. If the trial is early in the year there may be a chance he could play some part next season (assuming he is cleared of course)

Seems a long time for this to come to light. And a real shame if it is true.

The only doubt about this is why the Plods took 15 months to get interested in him, not sure why that would be, however they dont normally lay serious charges like this without very solid proof. Agree Anchorman it is not a reflection on the culture at Freo as it was some time before we took him on. This is the individual acting on his own volitions.
It isn't looking good for him and with his previous conviction of a very serious aggravated burglary, if convicted, would be looking at several years inside and the end of his AFL career. As you say even the ongoing court appearances and preparations will severely inerfere with his football anyway. Can't see a happy ending here at all.

A player has allegedly broken the law Anchorman. Sorry to be pedantic but he is assumed to be innocent until proven guilty.

You are right Mikeh there must be a "innocent till proven guilty" and I really wish he was innocent, but either way, his career is almost certainly over. He has been in the wrong place at the wrong time too many times.
