Yep a very very ordinary season. Some reasons maybe but still poor by any standard.
Crippled by long term injuries from star players down to the recruits, all added to the horror season.
Missing Mundy for 6 weeks early, Sandiland going down for a long time.Fyfe out for the season.Failure to get Bennell on the park.Injury to Michael Johnson was a serious blow.Failure to get Yarran on the park until late.
With any number up to nineteen injuries, a couple of times during the season, our list of players available was bordering on no one left.
But the good thing was that this gave us a chance to blood some new kids.Blakely, Weller, Langdon, Hughes, Grey,Collins and Tucker, have all shown that they are very capable of playing at the elite level.Time will prove that.Another pre season and weights programme will improve their bodies for the next full season.
We add the availability of the the Brute Michael Apeness to that list and we look well prepared for the future.
Some have disappointed during this season and have ,I think put their careers in jeopardy.Players like,Suban, Deboer,Clarke, Griffe, Mzungu, Hannath, have only themselves to blame if they get ousted.
Some other good signs are the maturing of Sheridan, Crozier and Sutcliffe. All three have shown they can play.
I guess our next season could depend on hwo we trade and how we draft as to where we go.
Some will say there is trouble at club level.I don't believe so. Steve Harris was going any way.So the move over to Dale Alcock was always in the wind.
Maybe the coaching staff needs some rearranging,I am not sure, But things weren't done right, from day one of pre season as Lyon has stated. We didn't have the legs to run out games ,and we faded badly after half time most games.
If we can keep our players on the park next season, we have the nucleus of a good side.Hill, Walters,Fyfe, Yarran, Sheridan, Sutcliffe ,Crozier,Blakely, Weller, Grey,Neale, Sandilands etc etc etc should all be enough experienced players to assist the team through a rough time.
A very poor year by any standards, but we will rebound and be more than competitive next season.
I am a glass half full, rather than half empty sort of guy.
Hang on I will get my rain coat ready.
LOL
Pretty much spot A/M let's face this group wasn't going to win a flag you could see the writing on the wall 7 or 8 games out of the finals Ross got everything out of it , he's blooded plenty of young players chance to rebuild his own list
There will be a big turn over in the list, few back from injury add a few from the draft and trades be on the verge of the eight next year.
