I would have liked to see more local boys picked up, makes sense to go local so there are no wanting to go home problems and settling in problems. They have had a bit of bad luck as well with the likes of Morabito and Pitt, but should have gone more local definately.

I think this stuff from Lloyd about picking the best available player is not a good strategy. I think you also have to take into account the balance of your squad. I have been gob smacked in the last few years that Freo have continually topped up with midfielders when blind Freddie could see that they have a dearth of talls and key position players. I think they could draw more from the WAFL, I was banging on last year about how useful Marcus Adams could be to them because to me he looked a ready made AFL player as he is proving now with the Doggies.

Picking Conor Blakely over Mitch McGovern seems to have been a good choice , probably bog for Freo on the weekend.

Darcy Cameron from Claremont may be worth a look at the end of the season as a potential key forward

I was thinking the same myself Mike. Good size & can ruck as well.

Agree certainly has the size and pretty mobile for a 204cm player, certainly worth a look.

Two things Freo need to change.

1. Pick local where possible.

2. Pick highly skilled players. This must be a priority - look at the Hawks & Geelongs. I cant pick a badly skilled player in either team yet I could rattle off half a dozen at Freo without any trouble whatsoever.

This years 18s have some very good pickings. I'm sure I've missed some but here are some that I've seen play.

Bailey - Highly skilled midfielder - left footer from memory which always helps.
Petrovski-Seton - Midfielder - as above but with speed to boot.
Goddard - Ruck with mongrel (200+cm) - foot skills are a worry though.
Strnadica - Key Forward/Ruck - highly skilled for a 200+cm.
Powell-Pepper - Midfielder/Half Back - solid and hard at.
English - Ruck with skill that could be used in a KP.
Pearson - Key Back with class.

Outside the 18s:-

Darcy Cameron - Key Forward/Ruck - 200+cm and ready to go.
Cameron McCarthy - Key Forward - proven at AFL but Freo need to sort with GWS.
