A coach has always gotta have an eye on the future....must be a bloody hard job when the players a coach grows to trust lose their mojo as a group. As a neutral will be interesting to see if Lyon can regenerate your mob quickly to bounce back in 2017.

Thumper is a good description for Barrett. Would make a great columnist in the woman's day mago imho

DD wrote: Re: Barlow and Dawson axing it sends a clear message. If you can't use the football efficiently you won't be selected at this level. Will be interesting to see if they get picked again. Barlow will pick up 35 possessions plus playing for Peel.

I think Dawson was dropped because there was no real match up for him, Gunston is the only tall and he's not that tall ,Pearce, or Ibbo can take him.

Dawson will be back when we come up against taller sides not that I want him to but we really have no one else unless they debut Collins.

Edit Ceglar or Mecvoy may rest down fwd so Dawson may be a late in yet, although the weather isn't going to be to flash.

Disappointing third qtr today , I thought we did ok apart from that I think Sutcliffe needs to go back to Peel he and Clarke were awful today, looks like Hill will miss a couple, Walters, A.Pearce and Neale our best today.

Certainly a disappointing third quarter, sort of highlighted all the skill errors of the season so far in 30 minutes. The rest was ok and I guess if you said before yesterday, we would lose down there by 5 goals, you would have been pretty happy. The young guys would have learned a lot from the experience. Process of elimination now to see who can make the grade and who cant. I think Mazungu, Dawson,Ibbottson and maybe Suttcliffe will come under the microscope now with the emphasis on ball use.

A very good article even more surprising it came from Damian Barrett.

Give it a few more weeks if Freo remain winless PN and Barrett will be on tv spruiking about tanking at Freo.

DW I would think Freo have absolutely no incentive to go out of their way to win many matches this season. Better for them to finish as low as possible to allow them access to some quality players coming through the Swan Districts footy club. Unfortunately, that will mean that they potentially will play against Swans next year.

Yep....I'm all for a lottery on draft picks for clubs that don't make the top 8 so clubs out of finals contention won't see any harm in winning games towards the end of a season. Hopefully one day common sense will prevail at HQ.

DW given the benefits that have accrued for a club like Geelong in terms of its father-son in the past and the changes that have been made to that; it certainly wouldn;t be a surprise if the AFL changed the rules re the draft not that Freo are likely to finish near the bottom. Prior to the alignment one wanted the players to be drafted to Freo in preference to going to an ES club; now the preference is for them to be drafted interstate for obvious reasons.

I think the writings on the wall for Dawson who has been very good at negating but cannot kick to advantage, Barlows lack of leg speed may end his career as Lyon has already said they are looking for more pace. Muzungu is nearing the end because of turnovers and Ibbottson not far behind. These guys have been great servants of the club, but the game has changed and Lyon is moving with those changes. I cant see Lyon moving Blakely out unless he just doesn't develope as expected. Its always a bit sad when people are moved on but it is a business and clubs/fans want results. There will be more that could go, Suban, DeBoar and mayne may be traded and Clarke just hasnt realised his early promise, not sure what they will do with him. Then you have Pav who will retire, Silvagni?
I think there may be about 8 changes by next season. Its a bit of a wild ride at the moment but headed in the right direction.
