If Geelong get both Frawley and Clark that will make me sick. There seems to be a pattern forming with free agency where players are jumping on board with clubs that are already strong and premiership fancies. Though Fremantle are in that category the distance seems to make them more likely to take the easy option. Is free agency working or creating a divide between the more attractive clubs and the rest?

Can you guys imagine how red Eddies face would be if they were told they had to travel interstate every second week like Freo and WCE do? Holy moly!
I honestly do think the travel thing does have something to do with it but in saying that I think DW hit the nail on the head being that the main reason they would prefer to stay in Melbourne is because of friends and family. If you had spent your whole life growing up in Melbourne it would be hard to move across the country away from all of your loved ones, even if it was for a fair amount of money.

DD - as for the free agency I am still torn. It does seem that the 'rich' Melbourne clubs seem to be getting the most out of it but in saying that Melbourne have picked up some handy players which will hopefully see them become a bit more of a challenge for opposition.

Free Agency will kill the AFL. Look at Sydney & Hawthorn in last few years. Players out of contract & with free agency should only be allowed to go to a bottom eight club. That would stop the price war & imbalance of the league.

Agree, free agency will be the death of the AFL, wouldn't surprise me if they revoked it at some point. Hopefully with the WAFL returning to channel 7 it will become more popular than the AFL.

The way it is set up means a good player in a bottom club can play in a PREMIERSHIP before retiring. That in not what it's meant for.

How would Hawthorn fit Frawley into the backline with Gibson and Lake? Unbelievable how back to back premiers can be in the race for his services.

As usual, we had a system that was fair. Then the AFL decide to change something and instantly we have a serious new flaw to deal with in the game.

The sub rule the AFL bought in would be one of the most pointless and meaningless rules the AFL have introduced. Free Agency is yet another, and it will see the divide between the powerful & the woeful get wider.

Another Demetriou legacy for Gillan to sort out.

Free agency is ok but the clubs that they go to get them far too cheaply.
Make those clubs put up more as in draft picks and player swaps.
Franklin (other than his pay cheque) cost Sydney stuff all.

The club losing the player shouldnt also lose out on the deal.
