Don’t think anyone saw that one coming until the last couple of days. I think we’ve paid too much for him though. Given Hawthorn gets  Lloyd Meek who has the ability to be a number one ruckman for the next 10 years plus the future 2nd rounder we got for Rory Lobb (plus pick 30) in exchange for O’Meara and a future 4th rounder. 

O’Meara had endless knee injuries early in his career at GC where he barely made it on the park so you’d have to assume there is some lasting damage there. He’s probably one more serious knee injury away from retirement. I’d say he drifts in and out between midfield and wing but maybe his value might be as a small forward. I remember him bagging 4 goals on his league debt as a 16 year old for my WAFL team.

Going to be interesting how Luke Jackson is used. You’d think now they’ve let Lobb go he’s going to be needed up forward and back up to Sean Darcy. 

I'm glad Lobb's gone as it would have been very awkward him playing for us after again asking for a another transfer  - but he had a very good year for us, so good that I don't know if Jackson will be as good next year in what sounds like will be the exact same role as Lobb. Saying that Amiss may come on leaps and bounds which might free up Jackson for other stuff. 

O'Meara should never have been allowed to go to GC as a 16/17 year old. Sounds like he would have been way overtrained hence the knee issues.

Meek is not a proven AFL player, sits in the same category as all the other players 200cm+ plus players clogging up lists. Jaeger was an absolute steal, given the amount of time Fyfe is on the sideline Jaeger's leadership will be invaluable.

 

You are wrong about Meek Tugger, he sits in the “starved of opportunity “ category. He more than held his own when given the opportunity earlier in the season when Darcy was injured and went back and dominated at WAFL level. What more could he have done? Like all ruckman they take a while to come on. I never thought Aaron Sandilands would make it.

Jeager has class, I think he was BOG in a GF in the Geraldton league at age 15.

Freo have put together a very powerful squad and their youngsters are a year more mature and experienced.  No excuses for not having a red hot shot at the next flag.

Freo are two key forwards away from a flag 58 and that's quite some distance still to go. Taberner could break a nail at any point and that's him gone for 6 weeks, Fyfe's body is starting to shut down after years of carrying Freo on his shoulders, Walters is way past his prime and there's not a whole lot left in the cupboard to bring on to kick winning scores any time soon. Terrific back 6, mids are first class but we're sadly lacking in the front half.

Fair comments BC.  I got the feeling that fans are expecting Jackson and O’Meara to carry Freo to the holy grail.  Be a lot of pressure on those 2 boys.

With Mundy leaving us, he will be a huge in ,football and experience wise. Another big body mid.

They will both go a long way to helping to progress the team.
I think the days of relying on one or two at Freo has long gone.
