I reckon you have nailed the subject DD. 
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

We all know the AFL is a self centred football whorehouse that doesn't care about the welfare of young men and women. It is all about greed to convince kids to choose football over other sports so drafts kids out of school instead of waiting for them to mature into young men. They are worried they will choose basketball or cricket over football so they take them as young as they can. Most young kids don't make it end up lost and had their potential to pursue other careers disrupted in the vital immediate years after finishing high school.

Also the big thing is the AFL doesn't want to lift the draft age because these young blokes would then be playing for their WAFL/SANFL/VFL clubs and god forbid it would actually create some interest in these leagues amongst the media and the public. The AFL sees these leagues as competitors.
