Article from the WEST explaining the clubs situation and the Points situation at the club..

West Perth are unlikely to recruit any former AFL or interstate players for the next two years after having their player points allocation reduced as punishment for a salary cap breach.

The Falcons would instead focus on "prudent list management" after having their points cap reduced to 120 for the next two seasons.

The 10-point reduction is the equivalent of a de-listed AFL player with up to 50 games or a regular VFL or SANFL player.

West Perth president Brett Raponi accepted the penalty following a WA Football Commission investigation triggered by the club admitting it had made a salary cap error last year.

"The club accepts the penalty but I want to make it clear that we weren't caught," Raponi said.

"We went to the commission and volunteered we had made a $5000 error. It is a fair finding and we are happy to accept it. It could have been far more severe."

Raponi said the 10-point penalty would not affect West Perth's operations and the club would continue to focus on developing talent within its metropolitan and country zones.

"We will focus on prudent list management in 2014 and 2015," he said.

The Falcons are on 111 points, 19 below the cap, with just nine of their 63 listed players coming from outside their districts.

The club has two 10-point players - Michael Mascoulis and Shaun Marusic - who have not played a senior match this season.

WAFC chief executive Gary Walton acknowledged West Perth had made a genuine administrative error but recognised the need for a balanced punishment.
"Penalties are appropriate for any breach that may have provided a competitive advantage," Walton said. "We must also be sensible and encourage any club that has made a mistake to step forward and own up."
