Surely this warrants a new topic? Has been your longest serving coach and one of the most successful. WP supporters speak up. Seems like there has been moves behind the scenes with Geoff Valentine sensationally pulling out of the EF job after verbally accepting. Looks like he will take the reigns at Joondalup and Monaghan could take the EF job. I think Bill Monaghan has done a remarkable job in his 10 years at West Perth.

Not a great way to go out, surely he and the club could have found a better way to depart and say both parties agreed it was the right time to mutually parting ways for a fresh change.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

Yep...agreed DD. From what I'm hearing WP didn't recruit at all this year so it's a remarkable effort to get the team into a GF just with what he had from last year. If he does get the EF gig I think he'll do well.

It is surprising and mentioned a falling out with the CEO and Footy Manager. Not sure jumping from WP to EF is a great career move- especially as EF finances are equally as perilous. Still, hope he turns things around and Shark Park and brings a few A graders with him

Equally perilous! Surely you jest. Whilst we are not flush with cash we are not a financial basket case with a debt of $700000-$800000!!!

I thought it was an undignified exit for someone who has been a fantastic coach for West Perth over a long period of time. Surely they could have given him the option of announcing his departure as something that was a mutual decision he made in consultation with the club. That may well have been the case but the "Monaghan Sacked" headline was not a good look.

Agree with you there, mike.
That said, doesn't the old adage go: "There are only two types of coaches: those who have been sacked and those who are about to be sacked"?

There’s been a lot of crap going on at WP , I’d be very surprised if this wasn’t connected to
The financial situation , WP might not be able to pay him as well next year , who knows or the GF thumping the last straw. Either way I reckon going to EF is a nightmare assignment.

The usual official dribble simply trotted out there.
Just raises more questions. One of them raised in the other WP topic.
And now the club is refusing to make further comment?!!!?
Pity Bills time at West Perth had to end on a sour note

A bit like 1969 when a certain team won the wooden spoon and along came a new coach Hassa Mann and South win the 1970 grand final. From basket case to premiers in 12 months. Probably the greatest turn around of all time occurred when Swans won the 1961 premiership after winning the wooden spoon with two wins in 1960. History records many significant turnarounds as can be seen by the performance of recent AFL sides in Western Bulldogs, Richmond and Collingwood. Where there is life there is hope.
