Great new show on 91.3 compared by Gary Carvolth.. Last week it was Bill Valli and this week it will be with Bill Dempsey.. Thursday night from memory.
I listened to this interview on the way up the freeway last weekend and was a great lead in to the club winning all three grades.

The name of the show is called WHERE ARE THEY NOW. Worth having a listen to them all.
Legends from the past.

Gary's voice hasnt changed at all..

Bill Valli as WPFC legend

Bill in Collingwood colours 1979

William Thomas John "Bill" Valli (born 16 April 1950) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood and Essendon in the Victorian Football League (VFL).

Valli had a noted career with WANFL club West Perth prior to arriving in the VFL. He played 147 senior games for West Perth between 1969 and 1978,[1] winning their 'Fairest and best' award on three occasions, 1974, 1977 and 1978. Although in 2000 he was named in West Perth's official 'Team of the Century' as a forward pocket, he spent most of his time as a rover. He also represented Western Australia in six interstate matches during his career.

His VFL stint began in 1979 with Collingwood and despite playing the majority of their games that season missed out on selection in the 1979 Grand Final. The following season he crossed to Essendon but could only manage the solitary game.

In 1981, Valli returned to Western Australia and spent the next two years at Subiaco to bring his final WANFL/WAFL tally to 184 games.

Ha yes the rule changes... :( Remember when Pollys flick pass got canned as well.
Caused a bit of controversy... shit now they just throw the ball and get away with it.

It appears the game of Australian Rules has now turned into a whistle listening
Exercise :(

One notable variant of the handpass was known as the flick pass, in which a player could use his open hand instead of his fist to propel the ball. The legality of the flick pass has varied throughout the history of the game; it became legal in the 1930s,[1] and in the late 1950s and early 1960s it had become a common technique to achieve centre square clearances from scrimmages. Owen Abrahams, Wally Clark and Kevin Wright were notable exponents at Victorian Football League (VFL) club Fitzroy. Of the 88 handballs executed during the 1961 VFL Grand Final, 18 were flick passes.[2] By 1966, the flick pass was considered a type of throw by Australian National Football Council (ANFC) rules, and was penalised with a free kick, with players required to use a clenched fist for disposal.

The flick pass had the significant drawback that its action was close to that of a throw, and different umpires had different interpretations of what was legal. In 1938, motivated by a desire to eliminate this inconsistency, and to speed up the game, the Victorian Football Association (VFA) legalised throwing the ball, provided the throw was with two hands and both hands were below shoulder-height. The throw-pass was legal in the VFA and in some other competitions affiliated with it from 1938 until 1949, but it was never legal under ANFC rules

Did a video search of the Flick pass nothing really came up.. Found this tribute to
Polly though.. What a great player... and he will be remembered for that.
Great parts on 1969 and 71 GF.. Wearing the Red and blue.. Bill Valli of course was in the 1969.
Maybe Mr Goodes could take a leaf out of his book..

Yes forgot to mention... the first 2 interviews on Garys show were
George Michalczyk (hope thats right) in the first at the link given in the first post
Second interview was sith John Todd..

This week Bill Dempsey. Now who can ever forget the Spud Slater interview on TV with Bill.. I cracked up when Bill talked about his family in Darwin and how he won the WEST Australian Football of the Year (I think) and he got a car
He took it up to Darwin and parked at the Rellies place.. Came out one day and it was gone.. Apparently they shared everything.. To this day he has never seen that car and didnt really care..

Wonder if Gary will bring that up.

Anyway for the slackies the Interviews are on Where are They now on 91.3 Podcasts.. just go down the page for episodes.

Yep and he did have Polly in 1969 GF as well just to give a hand (see clip above) :)

Just reminiscing how good Footy was before this WAFC decided to destroy it with the alignment and the TV Fiasco etc etc etc... So many bad decisions but lets not go there.
At least we have the past.. and us that are older enjoyed the Great days of the WAFL.
Feel sorry for the young ones as they will live and experience what we had.
Huge crowds.. idol worship and Bloody good footy.
Now dont call me a sook but got a bit of a wet eye in the Polly clip (not because WP won a GF) B) But the song sang at the end by the Kids ... Your looking well Polly. Watch it an you will have to agree a great Era.. Never to be seen again.
The GOLDEN ERA has finished

I dont think I will be using this Logo Again.
