I would think that's an impressive win in any book?
His opinion was also the run of the team was impressive as was the secoond efforts and the general forward movement and tackling .....
Guess he must have been at the other end to winger .......
But everyone has different opinions and sees the same colour with a touch of bright or dark
Makes us humans
Your right Growler I was at the game.. Did see Winger there but not sure where he got his score line from etc??
The Final score was WP 14.12 (96) EF 4.5 (29)
WP played like a well oiled machine remembering a bunch of the guys will most probably be dropped back to Ressies it was a great Effort.
EF in my book have problems even though it was a scratch match they looked very disjointed and didnt impress at all.. Youngy busted his guts and he had retired but got talked into another season as did McGough... These two players will be need in the 2015 season to lead the way. EF have lost a couple of good players as well so will wait and see how they go. Not running EF down but I feel they will have an average season.
Early days yet and I know they will say IT WAS ONLY A SCRATCH MATCH! But it gives and indication of strengths and weaknesses... I wish them all the best in 2015 as I do have a soft spot for them and they are an Unaligned true WAFL club.
As Winger said we got over the line in the reserves and when they were about 3 goals down in the last qtr I had written them off. Yeh I know you never do that with WP as we NEVER GIVE UP.. An sure enough the guys came back with some brilliant plays and all is looking good for 2014 Reserves premiers under Smokes.
Paul Sanzone is now the Colts assistant coach and from what I saw him do with the reserves and knowing his Football knowledge watch them improve in 2015. Great to see Paul stay involved with club..
Now a couple of things I noted in both games we have a GREAT player base and a few of the Reserves in this scratch match were League Players. Obviously WPFC mixed the teams up just to give them a game. Saw Branchy at the game and he will be sorely missed as the guy is a legend but he was getting a lot of injuries and I am sure WPFC have recruited well to get replacements for the few that have left or retired.
A couple of our reserves/League players are ready for the big League.
Two that spring to mind are Luke Meadows who finished off well last year and really played well in the Heat. One example was where he did a handball at halfway line and then ran down field supporting the player with the ball (did run past a couple of WP players LOL)
The end result was he was handballed the ball 30 metres out and kicked a good goal.
Big future for this guy.
Kris Shannon had a good game and has taken off where he left off last year.
Drew Rhode fired and played a brilliant game... Gotta somethink about that Hair though Drew
The usual suspects were good.. Striker was playing forward and kicked a few goals will be interesting as he was brilliant in the back line last year but I suppose it all comes down to our new players and where they are played the best.
Blacky was everywhere. Marcus Adams is looking good and was dominent great to see him in good form and he will continue to be a BIG part of our team.
Guady was in and under and you cant but help love the guy and his dedication and stamina.
Others who handled the heat and are key players were Jonesy,Kerr,Crisp,Browny (Mr Backline), The Van Berlo's are looking very fit and ready for another Steady Season.
Matt Johnson was in and out of the game but will improve.
Chooky Fowler has taken on the mantle of having a pony tail on his head. Talking to Kody Manning he said he wont have one this year. He was out with a minor injury.
Chris Keunen won a lot of Ruck.. Got a bad Corky in the first qtr but didnt slow him down. Lets hope Chris has a injury free year and those Migraines stay away.
Support specialist ruckmen are in short supply but I am very impressed with Tim Sutherland and he knows how to do the job. Big future at the club and will benefit from Chris's mentoring and coaching.
Razor was his usual self... Involved in a lot of play but you wouldnt expect anything less from Him.
Micheal Loury even though not a huge standout showed he has the build and ability to be a big part of the team..He has a great kicking action and can get the distance as he showed when shooting at goal. Another target up forward??? It all comes down to Acclimatization and getting to familiarize himself with our club and league.. He wont have a problem there as WPFC has one of the best records for team spirit and all players playing as one.. Welcome to the club Micheal.
Anyway it was a great day to meet the Pres/CEO and the players.
I walked away with a good feeling about our year and looking at the teams that will run on it will be.
Go you mighty Cardies
