Todays Worst:

West Perth will not bow to new WAFL broadcaster Channel Seven's demand to remove a rival's logo from its club jumpers in 2015.

The decision means footy fans are unlikely to see West Perth games on Channel Seven in 2015 because the network refuses to broadcast any games where its rival station is promoted on guernseys.

The Falcons secured Nine as its jumper sponsor in 2014 and told members on Tuesday night it must retain the sponsorship to ensure the club's short and long-term future.

The decision by Channel Seven puts Falcons fans in a corner for the sake of corporate one-upmanship.

West Perth signed Channel Nine as its major sponsor in March, 2014, when the ABC held the WAFL TV rights and broadcast Falcons games with Nine's logo on jumpers.

It was only in February this year the WAFC reached a broadcast agreement with Channel Seven, the details of which have been withheld from all nine WAFL clubs, despite repeated requests.

"Channel Seven appears to be dictating the terms of the television schedule and, as announced on Saturday, has decided not to televise any games involving West Perth," Falcons CEO David Crute said.

What do you think of Channel Seven's stance? Comment below

Mr Crute said Nine had allowed West Perth to wear jumpers without the logo during the past few weeks as it tried to negotiate an outcome with the WAFC and Channel Seven.

The WAFC and Seven refused to telecast West Perth games even without Nine's logo, according to Mr Crute.

"The WAFC rejected the offer [to telecast the games] on the basis that such a deal would amount to West Perth nominating which of its matches would be televised," Mr Crute revealed.

Sources said West Perth and Nine could potentially launch legal action against Seven and the WAFC over the refusal to not broadcast Falcons games but neither party is willing to take Seven to court.

Mr Crute said the club made a small profit in 2014 thanks to Nine's sponsorship and the result was huge after the struggles it had faced since moving to Joondalup in 1994, when it was forced into a tenancy agreement with Venues West.

"The move to Joondalup stripped the club of many of its traditional sponsors and supporters and put it, at times, in a perilous financial position," Mr Crute said.

Falcons president Brett Raponi said Channel Nine was committed to its contract and would even increase funding to improve match-day experiences for fans at Joondalup and help the club increase its revenue.

"Football on free-to-air TV is great for the WAFL competition ... [but] given that the WAFC sourced the entire funding for production costs, I expected the WAFC would have had more influence upon Seven," Raponi said.

He said that in the wake of the directive from Channel Seven and the WAFC three weeks ago, the club had suggested several options "which required collaboration from all parties but at this point in time a satisfactory alternative has not been reached".

"[We] would like to continue discussions with Channel Nine, Channel Seven and the WAFC as the season progresses to obtain a more desirable outcome for all parties," Mr Raponi said.

West Perth plays its first match of the WAFL season against South Fremantle at Fremantle Oval on March 20 - but it won't be on free-to-air television unless the parties reach an agreement.

Channel Seven directed questions about the broadcast issue to the WAFC, which said it was still in talks with the Falcons and Seven over the issue.

"We are continuing to work with West Perth to ensure their games can be covered on the Seven Network," a spokesman said on Wednesday.

"They are a big club, with a big following, so we're hoping to reach a resolution before the start of the season."

One option was for West Perth to remove Nine's logo for any games broadcast on Seven, he said.

Meanwhile, Falcons supporters have taken to Facebook to vent their anger over the issue.

One fan, Dave Julian, said he had contacted Channel Nine to support its sponsorship of the Falcons.

"For the sake of my Falcons, I will go to every telecast WAFL game and stand behind the goals with a sign with the Channel 9 logo!! See how those Channel 7 dictators and WAFC like that!!" he wrote.

West Perth's number one ticket-holder is Seven newsreader and Perth personality Basil Zempilas, a former Falcons ruckman, while Seven's face of football in Perth is Dennis Cometti, a former coach of the Falcons.

Hi All, received an interesting reply from Channel 7 requesting all comments be directed to the WAFC. As though they are playing no part in this fiasco.

Just browsing the WAFL site and read this

This will be the first of 18 live WAFL games on the 7 Network in 2015, not including finals, and we are genuinely excited about the new opportunities this will present for the competition.

“We have tried to minimise changes to traditional start times for games where possible, while also trying to maximise viewership opportunities by avoiding direct clashes with AFL games and leading into and out of live AFL games on the 7 Network,” Mr Sautner said.

Mr Sautner said Hmmmm it appears one of the WAFL clubs has been Black Banned..FOR WEARING AN ADVERTISING BANNER THAT THEY DONT LIKE. No mention of this in his his article. But then what can you believe off this guy who recently won a Unfair dismissal case and then it was OVERTURNED.. ;) READ ARTICLE..

www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-austral...hocxo3-1227241802557

Our esteemed friends at the WAFC had this to say in the article..

“The WAFC does not believe that any of the issues raised during the initial court case and the recent appeal have occurred during Mr Sautner’s time in Western Australia and this must also inform our view on the case.

“The WAFC also notes that Mr Sautner’s current role at the WAFC is substantially different to his previous involvement at Etihad Stadium and is focused on competitions and game development, not stadium management.” YES HE IS NOW OPERATIONS MANAGER OF THE WAFL..Seems like a promotion to me.???

Yes this is coming from an organisation who has run at a loss for a few years!!!!
And now they employ people who have been dismissed from another Organisation Etihad stadium..
I would of loved to see his resume as I am sure his previous boss wouldnt of written one.

What a pack of losers we have running our great WAFL game. Incompetant doesnt describe this mob of Would be's if the could be's who enjoy the comforts of life and plenty of eats and drinks at Football games..

well since footygoss has fallen over I havnt really kept the passion.
however, to certain commentators on this topic I agree.
get down to the games and plaster the areas with west perth signs.
pretty simple and mega coverage.
the way I see it is that channel 7 will have more cameras and put a few bucks in than the abc.
the abc was going stale. this may save the wafl.
we might even get commentators who aren't negative farkers like ken judge and actually have something constructive to say.

Yeah it is time for serious challenges to the current WAFC heirachy's tenure.
I posted a topic on it a few days ago - been well shuffled under the filthy WAFC carpet that little scandal Cardy.
Personally I believe it's time for some of our State's ex-champions to be approached about sticking their hands up to run against these creepy bastards like Cooper , Walton & Fullarton
No wonder Brian Atkinson resigned in disgust!

Yes Southerner you have hit the nail on the head and bottom line this is a load of shit
The WAFC is an organisation that cannot even get their own affairs in order. The head honcho get a medal for his services to the community and Football!

One person you forgot was RANDALL the ex president of Subiaco who is looking after his old club. Their lease came to an end so the WAFC decides to comphensate them with allowing to retain the bar trading and all the AFL functions etc.. this would be putting a couple of million into his old club.. Conflict of interests would you say? One poster on OZ FOOTY said it all.. quote

Neil Randall? You have got to be kidding me? This is the same president that has led the biggest sham in WAFL history by devising deals to compensate Subiaco to the tune of millions per year for the last 10 years or so since they departed Subiaco Oval for Leederville Oval way beyond the type of compensation the likes of East Perth and West Perth received for relocating from their former home grounds and now they've just struck another deal that will see them receive the same benefit for the remainder of the life of Subiaco Oval as an AFL venue.

The WAFC is a pathetic joke for allowing this to happen and hopefully some arse kicker with a bit of mongrel in him will come into the commission and correct this monumental stuff up by that pack of no hoper's so that any benefit Subiaco gains is distributed evenly among the other 8 WAFL clubs. Subiaco Oval belongs to WA football, not the Subiaco FC. The Subiaco FC did not build the grandstands to accommodate 43 000 people, the tax payers of WA paid for that but this club thinks it is entitled to benefit from it while the other 8 WAFL clubs cannot.

You can read the rest of the posts at

www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/jostling-...e-wafc-board.888073/

unquote

So we must look at the big picture.. It all comes down to the WAFL and the WPFC just getting on with what they do best.. Playing Footy. They have a good sponser who has kept them out of the Shit being channel 9 and a lot of other sponsers helping the club.
The WPFC is around 130 years old and will survive. It has a huge supporter base and will get people through the gates whether it is televised or not.
I will miss ABC with its Half Time at the Footy and a complete replay of games on IVIEW as many will contrary to some who didnt know what a great deal we had with them

So to finish off lets get on with playing footy and winning games. This issue has blown out and it can do no good for the mindset of the players and the club. We have a proud club that struggles as do many WAFL clubs to raise funds. A club who survives on sponsorship they create and are punished because of this. On the other hand we have
another club Being EP who have made little effort to raise revenue and were on the verge of bankruptcy making a $380,000 profit because of their alignment with a AFL club who must bow their heads in shame... Now is this a level playing field?

ps I did see your post re SAUTNER the other day and followed it up. The recruitment of him to the position of Operations Manager says it all.

I hope you dont mind me playing one of my favourite Video's
Great and thanks to Frank FM from WPFC

Nah not a problem with me , we play for the GM's cup each year & it's a bit of a traditional game as far I as I am concerned each time we play against the Cardies
(and there you go mate I can't ever get that moniker out of the system haha)

Hoping your guys get some , er , "special" motivation out your games this year against the two maggot clubs that have caused so much anger amongst us all

Note: I have some very close friend's & family who are traditional EP people who have walked away & gone back to their old VFL sides to support rather than be seen with what has become of their heartland - two Uncles will never return over Howson's address to the members that night

I said it under the WAFL forum and been thinking even more about it. Saunter is a dud. VFL reject and now we read from supreme court finding that he has some serious character floors. The guys who employed him have to be held to account by the Clubs and Dept Sport and Rec too should look into it
