West Australian Football Commission chairman Frank Cooper says he sees no reason why West Perth should be compensated for a sponsorship clash which has cast doubt over their three-year deal with Channel 9.
Rival network Channel 7 will begin broadcasting WAFL matches this season, putting the Falcons - who have a Channel 9 logo on their guernseys - on a collision course with the WAFC.
West Perth's deal with the broadcaster, which began last year, is due to run for two more seasons and is thought to be worth around $100,000 per year, making Channel 9 the club's biggest sponsor.
Channel 7 does not want a rival network advertised on televised games.
The conflict has raised questions over whether the Falcons would be compensated for a drop in the value of their sponsorship if it is not advertised on television.
But when the question of compensation was put to Cooper this week he responded: "I don't see why."
"At the time they were negotiating with Nine we told them we were dealing with Seven and we asked them to leave it out," he said.
"They refused on the basis that we couldn't make them, saying 'you don't have a deal with Seven so you can't stop us'.
"As far as I am concerned you make your decision, you deal with the consequences."
Channel 7 will telecast 18 WAFL games, plus finals, this season.
If the games were allocated evenly across the competition, West Perth would likely be on television four times during the home and away season.

Cooper said the WAFC had not set conditions in the broadcast agreement forcing Channel 7 to show West Perth games if the Falcons insisted on wearing the Channel 9 logo.
He said it was for Channel 7 to decide if they would show their rivals' logo.
He also said it was up to West Perth and Channel 9 to decide what to do with their sponsorship arrangements if Channel 7 refused to show Channel 9's branding.
Cooper and West Perth president Brett Raponi confirmed talks were continuing between the Falcons and WAFC chief operating officer Nick Sautner in a bid to resolve the issue.
"From our point of view the best for the competition is what we have to aim for and that means having the competition on television and that means Channel 7," Cooper said.
"As far as I am concerned West Perth entered into their transaction with Nine knowing the risk.
"We didn't have a deal with Seven at the time but they knew the risk, we discussed that with them at the time and they chose to take the risk."
Raponi said the Falcons were committed to Channel 9.
"They have shown great faith and supported many initiatives set by the club in our attempts to grow Australian Rules football in the northern suburbs," he said.

I hope you guys play the AFL reserves filth - win the game kicking a score of 9.9 (and the scoreboard attendant stuffs it up a bit with the total being 69 !!!)

Just an amazing response from Cooper & his snails - Christ it's bloody hard enough to get those types of sponsors in the first place but to wait a year on the premise of a "maybe" telecast deal jesus

:woohoo: With a score like that, I wonder if the broadcaster would even show the scoreboard?

Frank the wank Cooper Stated. As far as I am concerned West Perth entered into their transaction with nine knowing the risk. What risk Mr Cooper?
Frank Cooper stated. At the time they were negotiating with nine we told them we were dealing with seven and we asked them to leave it out," he said. What is LEAVE IT OUT Mr Cooper?
Frank Cooper stated. As far as I am concerned you make your decision, you deal with the consequences. What consequences, Mr Cooper.
You are sitting on the other side of the fence Mr Cooper and you know it. Be a bit more specific Mr Cooper. Seven, Nine, Ten and the ABC advertise the other brand every day especially Channel seven Mr Cooper. I believe Mr Cooper sits on the other side of the fence and is a person who doesn’t want to get involved. So, if WPFC digs its heels in, what can Mr Cooper do and what can channel seven do.
I think MR COOPER HAS NO BALLS.

You're right Winger. Mr Cooper HAS NO BALLS. It is all summed up in the West this morning when he said as far as he is concerned it is between WP and Channel 7. It;s all too hard for him.
By the way haven't I seen Foxtel commercials on 7. Whats the difference. It's a different network isn't it,

Question for the Cardinal supporters who are in the know, what do your other sponsors think of the issue, they might be a bit annoyed if they miss out on any exposure.

To me it is not a question of the gonads but how your club managers (Raponi) a difficult situation not of your making.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

That's a very good question Grump. The major sponsors are backing the club all the way. More importantly, in February 2014 channel nine forwarded a proposal to the WAFC to televise all games including all finals games. This proposal was rejected. I would like to know why it was rejected. In my opinion, the WAFC wanted channel seven and all the other networks didn't have a chance. I ask Mr. Cooper, to publicly explain what was wrong with the nine proposal and for him to step in and tell Channel Seven to pull down the West Australian signs when channel ten televises the basketball.

It was a smart move by 9 to get the deal up knowing a fair chance that 7 would take over the rights, they have got a lot of exposure out of this already.
I also note the WAFC didn't care for ch2 that 9 and 7 have been on jumpers the last year, ch2 had to suck it up
