WEST PERTH HERITAGE COMMITTEE
West Perth’s new clubrooms might not be scheduled to open until 2016, but the club is already planning to fill the new facility with memorabilia covering its 128-year history.
Since leaving Leederville Oval at the end of 1993, West Perth has only had a couple of small areas in which to show off its historical memorabilia at Arena Joondalup.
But the construction of the new Centre of Excellence is expected to allow the club to allocate up to 100sq metres of area for a museum and historical display.
Club historian Brian Atkinson and journalist Sean Cowan will lead a heritage committee which will be responsible for organising the display.
The committee’s first task will be to catalogue the memorabilia already held by the club, most of which is stored in the offices at Joondalup. Because of space restrictions, other items have been stored off-site.
Volunteers are sought to help with the cataloguing project and any member who is interested in becoming involved should call or email the club. It would help if volunteers had some basic computer skills, but there will be tasks that can be undertaken by those who are not computer literate. Most of the work will be carried out at the club during a few hours each week.
One of the heritage committee’s priorities will be to gather as many team photographs as possible, dating right back to the days when West Perth was known as Victorians (1885-1888) and Metropolitans (1889-1890).
While it is expected that the club will have many photos in its own holdings, we are keen to hear from members and past players who might have team photos that they would consider donating or lending to the club for copying.
We would also like to hear from anyone who has any item of historical significance which they might allow the club to display in its new museum. The details of any loan or donation can be discussed with the heritage committee, including ways in which donors will be recognised. The museum will also be insured.
Among those items sought for the display are jumpers, club blazers, trophies/medals, yearbooks, newsletters, match programs (Football Budgets or otherwise), cigarette and trading cards, membership and supporter badges, mirrors, figurines and footballs.
Along with its responsibility for the museum, the Heritage Committee will be responsible for making recommendations about the name of the new building and various rooms within it.

COLTS COACH RE-APPOINTED
The club is pleased to announce that Craig Thomas has been
re-appointed as Head Coach of the Colts for a further 12 months.
His re-appointment is affirmation of his ability to develop our younger players for
senior football. Players who have come through the Colts under Craig's guidance
include Shane Nelson, Nic Rodda, Brayden Antonio and Matt Johnson.
REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE
As many of you would be aware, the West Australian State Government recently committed 16 million dollars towards redevelopment of the Arena Joondalup complex. An additional 4 million dollar contribution from the City of Joondalup will see the Arena Joondalup complex become one of the leading community sporting facilities in Australia. The areas earmarked for redevelopment include:
New facilities for the West Perth Football Club
Relocation of the Wanneroo Basketball Stadium
Second pitch for the Joondalup Brothers Rugby Club
Additional netball courts
The final amount allocated to the West Perth Football Club is approximately 8.5 million dollars. This will provide a 2000 square metre, two storey facility that will finally deliver a true home for the West Perth Football Club since moving to Joondalup nearly 20 years ago. The new building will be situated where the Les Fong Gates currently stand and will join onto the southern end of the existing Grandstand. The new facility will include:
Change rooms, lecture theatre and gym for the playing group (downstairs)
Administration offices (upstairs)
Function Room (upstairs)
Corporate suites (upstairs)
Commercial lease space (downstairs)
The process from this point will see a Project Committee set up that will include representatives from:
West Perth Football Club
Venues West
Dept. Sport & Recreation
City of Joondalup
Wanneroo Wolves Basketball Association
The anticipated timeline for completion is expected to be around the end of 2015 ready for the 2016 season
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
Given the short time frame in between games during the finals series, we are planning for hosting a Preliminary Final Luncheon (hopefully this won't be required though) at Arena Joondalup and a Grand Final luncheon at Paterson's Stadium. We are seeking expressions of interest for both of these events and further information can be obtained by contacting Georgia on 9300 3611 or
