The Perth derby will have major top-four implications for both
East Perth and West Perth, albeit at different ends of finals tree.
While the Royals lost last week they are only out of the
top four on percentage, with favourable results this weekend
likely to open the door to fourth place.
The Falcons dominated the second half of their first game
this year against the Royals in round one, with an 11-goal-toone
advantage despite lower accuracy. Josh Mellington and Anthony
Tsalikis will give the Falcons a scoring boost the Royals will
need to limit without sacrificing any of their own attacking
pressure.
Josh Smith, the league’s leading goalkicker, and the other Royals key forwards will
need their midfield teammates to find ways to take advantage of Paul Johnson’s dominance in the ruck and use their clearances to get the ball quickly across the
ground.
The Falcons can rely on their defensive play to limit the Royals
up forward, with Andrew Strijk, Luke Tedesco and Dan Hunt anchoring a consistent back line.
Matt Guadagnin could line up for his 150th game as a Falcon while Aaron
Black could play his 50th senior game.

Good luck to Steve Potente if he makes his debut for the Falcons on Monday. I was sorry to see him leave Swans because I rated him as a player. Steve was very unlucky not to be a 2010 premiership player as he played in the preliminary final against East Perth and he was the one who made way for Michael Walters who returned from the Dockers. He was unfortunately blighted with injury during his Swans career and I wish him better luck with West Perth.
