Went to Claremont oval to watch the Falcons v the Tigers on Saturday afternoon, we all know how fantastic the premises are but the oval surface is not that flash. Anyway, both teams didn’t field a full league squad but the game was ok. Claremont played their typical long kicking game and West played a strange short kicking game, I found it to be frustrating to see players kick a ball short where a handball would have been more effective. It was a scratch match and that’s all it was. Claremont won by around five goals. No one stood out for West, must put the boots into Tyler, he dropped three sitter chest marks in the forward line and a favourite of mine, Kooper Todd was played out of position. He is a deep forward and a bloody good player. It was great to catch up with all the boys, you blokes know who you are. Had a chat with Bill Monahan, there is no question, he still has a soft spot for the Falcons. Not a lot of people at the game even though the bar had quite a few Claremont folk enjoying themselves. So the season is just about upon us, we will see how this season pans out with spectator numbers and memberships around the clubs. I have always been a glass half full person, a person who sees the good in people, a person with a positive outlook on most things. I love the wafl, I love seeing young men participating in comradely, a bunch of blokes being part of a club rather than smashing street light globes with a ging, yep I did that. Unfortunately I see gloom on the horizon with the wafl and I don’t know how to fix it. Keep well all.

Great that you went, many don't bother with pre season games especially when they're competing with the AFL at Joondy.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

Unfortunately Wing mate - it won't be up to us to find the fix , it's there but the WAFC has sold it's nutbags to the Viccos and have long been in the process of dismantling everything we've all loved about WAFL football
They've promoted nothing but the next batch of fodder for the east & themselves
Just fuck all promotion of our league and that's just obnoxious given that it kick started the dying VFL / AFL

I don't wish to stray orf topic because I am sure the Claremont / West Perth scratch match would have been good to watch.
I think Southerner has nailed it quite accurately. The will is simply not there to bring the Wafl back, sad to say!

Agreed with Winger on most fronts. I think we definitely had a lot lesser League squad than CL, we had 7 of our best 22 out which gives me some sort of confidence. Our intent to short pass back into the corridor at half forward was a definite directive by the Coach as we had a number of chances to kick long on one out contests and the players didn't even entertain the idea. CL still carry on like pork chops when they score a goal, I have a feeling it meant a bit more to them than us.

In saying all the above I think CL will be top 3, they have a good spread of some exciting players.
