My first post,
I remember the exhilaration of the 60's and especially acknowledge the 70's premiership teams as a bonded group who maybe didn't have the "stars" (apart from Robert} but had the Currie's, Watt's, Day's, Rosbender's and my favourite, A Johnson plus a few from the VFL side North Melbourne and many others including that Gibellini who went from Demon to Saint when he transferred to Perth…. but I'm biased. I give Gary much credit for the success of the Perth Demons in those years ….He was the all-important link man back to forwards with the occasional goal.
The loss in 1978 was heartbreaking, but I was there in the clubrooms after the game and the atmosphere was electric - we were all so proud of the players on the day and so we should have been.
After 40 odd years I too want success above all else, but I have to acknowledge the efforts of those in the metro and regional districts who have beavered away against the odds. We recruited well in the 70’s. Not all were successful. I believe in these AFL times we need to look first locally. Certainty a decent slice of the cake will help, hopefully a redraw of the boundaries will be good for us.
If Subiaco FC ‘s success is a problem then we should wear it and more importantly air it and learn from it. I’m old enough to have been at the first Suby premiership in 49 years….(yes it hurt.. but back then it did seem deserved…almost)
If as been suggested Suby have managed to “game” the system, then this too should be exposed for the benefit of all in the WAFL.
I'm not aligned to any faction or group within the club and I sincerely hope that all members are as one in our endeavour and desire to see the PFC prosper,,, It's been too long and I hope for success.
