I'm not sure what you lot expected. He was drafted in 2011 and has had nothing to do with Perth in all that time. It just goes to show that all the bleating about clubs poaching guys coming out of the AFL system is a nonsense. Most have no particular loyalty to their original club and why should they? they've had SFA to do with it for several years in most cases.

We expected that when the Eagles got a reserves team in the WAFL it would be on the basis that they didn't take required players away from traditional WAFL clubs. Especially those that have been starved of success.

The Eagles didn't take anything...McInnes made a choice as unpalatable as it may sound.

BC, McInnes is a Perth player. Automatically on our list when delisted by WCE.
He would require a clearance to play for another WAFL club including WCE.
Under WAFC rules WCE cannot take players from traditional WAFL clubs.
If those rules have changed any clearance to WCE should require compensation to the WAFL club.
Would it not ???

They were the rules the WAFC put in place Ted.
Now they have gone against that, so much for any rules they put in place.

Conflict of interest with Murray McHenry was WAFC chairman when decision made.
It's a nonsense.

Smokey a suitable replacement would cost the Club 10 or 12 points.
I assume compensation would include extra points.

If the rules have changed then compensation should apply, including extra points.
After all we have a one point player and need to replace him which will cost us points just as you have alluded to.

Yes Smokey. It's my understanding that he is eligible to transfer to WCE because he was there for more than 6 years but they must pay compo to Perth....WCE don't have access to delisted players who were with them for less than 6 years and they can only recruit one player from each original WAFL club...that's how I read it anyway.

Thank you for that BC. Surely compo should include extra points to offset the additional points required for any replacement worth more than 1 point..
I note that McInnes is still on our list so I suspect that a clearance is being negotiated.
No official word from the club as yet.

I can't see anything in the rules or regs to that affect Smokey. It would make sense to me for the arbitrator to set a transfer fee and points compensation at the same time...but we are talking the WAFC so who knows?
