Just thought I would put this monstrosity of a game up for Perth supporters to have a look at:

PFC 0.0 6.3 10.6 15.8
S 4.4 6.8 12.15 13.16

a good effort by the red and blacks; the Subiaco side included Haydn Bunton, among other high profile Victorian recruits.

Had a look at the stats for this game Arc and I noticed that a bloke called Austin Robertson kicked 8 goals 1 for Perth! Thats a bit bizarre.

mikeh: Good post; I did not notice that, but I agree, I have often wonderred why Austin jr ended up at Subi given his Dad's long connexion with the Demons. As you said, the world does work in funny ways.

This is all from a distant and fading memory.

AR Snr and AR Jr were both at Scotch College - with Snr as footy and athletics coach.

Scotch had a strong association with Subi at the time. In fact, Snr may have also been playing a role there as well.

jack: thanks goes a long way to explaining it
smoke: thanks: ARsnr did indeed coach in the late 1930s, but also in the late 1940s where the Demons made grand finals. From memory, having looked at Ric's site, Perth finshed no lower than third under his coaching, which, suggests, that, his record would be right at the top of coaches whom failled to win a flag.

He finished second to SF, a club which, as you know 'smoke', had the best team in the country at the time never mind th state. .

So what you're saying Ark is Subi stealing Perth players and recruiting Victorians isn't a recent phenomenon? This scandalous practice goes WAYYYYY BACK?

AR Snr was Captain/Coach of Perth in 1938 and 1939 finishing 6th and 5th.
He coached the club again in 1944 finishing 4th, again in 1947 finishing 4th, again in 1948 finishing 3rd and again in 1949 finishing runners up.
From 1949 to 1954 Perth played in 3 losing grand finals of 1949, 1950 and 1951 before notching only their second ever flag in 1955.
From 1966 to 1978 Perth won 5 flags and were runners up on 3 occasions, clearly the best streak of success in the club's history.
