Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Here is the letter. Took a while to load so I copied it to save others the same

Perth footy club president’s vote for Peel out of sync

Tom Dixon (“Peel’s premiership was hard won”, Letters, POST, October 1) is correct in giving credit to the management, supporters and players of Peel Thunder Football Club for winning the WAFL Grand Final, and for acknowledging their perseverance to overcome the odds to win the WAFL premiership. I take issue, however, with Mr Dixon’s comments about the president of the Perth Football Club “ … who changed his mind and voted to allow Peel to enter the WAFL competition …” for the 1997 season. Whether other WAFL club presidents were shortsighted or not is, with respect, irrelevant. The fact is that the board of directors of Perth had voted to reject the admission of an additional club into the WAFL – a situation of which I’m well aware because I was a director of Perth at the time. Credit should never be given to an elected official of any organisation, at any level, who overrides a clear resolution of that organisation to act or vote in a particular way.
