He's been with us a while now.
6 years I think?
Not sure on that.

DF, it's been 4.5 seasons. He took over from Brian Leys during 2012 season.
You would think that he believes that he has unfinished business at Lathlain...a positive (so far) recruiting period and the Lathlain Redevelopment.

He's always stated he is here for the long haul Smokey. It's taking a long time to have an impact on the field under Marty's tenure I believe he didn't want to tread on any toes and upset the establishment in his first couple of years failing to make the hard call on the coach. Maybe that's not his call anyway but I'm sure he could have great influence on coaching performance.

He has been vocal about culture until this off season there has been a revolving door of players coming and going. Earls first year his hands were tied, last year a few recruits but lost a few so rob peter pay paul stuff. This off season so far we are looking like adding significantly to our squad without the usual losses.

Does Marty really have CEO credentials? Or is he a CEO at a football club purely because of his football background? I've always felt he is more suited to a football manager role.

Corporately what has he done at the club? Under our previous couple of CEO's we've always had a ground naming sponsor. Under Marty's tenure nothing.

With regard to ground sponsor currently.
I think I heard and I may be wrong, the ground sponsor a substantial deal will be done with the Eagles.
Again I may be wrong but I think I heard that PFC will be a beneficiary in that.

Fair call DD but I cannot totally agree with your suggestion that the CEO does not need a football background.

The role of a CEO is very broad and you have alluded to Marty's influence on culture, coaching and recruiting. That only comes from a football background.

Having said that, the CEO has to have some business acumen as he/she is responsible for budgeting, finance management, sponsorships and memberships.
IMO it would be fair to say that on his watch sponsorships and memberships have increased and I would not be too critical of the current lack of a Ground Naming Sponsor.

At WAFL level these are not easy to find. With the ground redevelopment and increased profile, it may become more attractive for potential Ground Naming Sponsors in respect to the new PFC oval.

I would cut Marty some slack in comparing his performance with his three immediate predessors...IMHO

Smokey where did I say a football CEO doesn't need a football background? Ideally they do, in Liz Bradley's case she didn't in a playing sense but was outstanding in her role. I was just questioning Marty's true CEO credentials in an academic sense and we seem to have maintained the same sponsorship the last few years with no new blood on board in a sponsorship sense.

Maintaining sponsorship levels in a tough economic environment despite continued poor onfield performance would suggest your CEOs doing a bloody good job.

Agree with Redlegs... You would have to give the big fella a few ticks for his maintaining sponsorship in the face of a tough economic enviromnment and continued poor onfield performances.
Can you please give us back Clint Jones as well :)

On the contrary you need to be building and growing sponsorship. Phoenix Shutdown Services was our major sponsor, we've lost them and our secondary sponsor Provident Capital Partners (a Perth supporter) has taken over as the major sponsor. I would say our sponsorship has declined under MA.

No you can't Dwert payback for Haddrill and Bossong.

It would improve immensely if your onfield performances improved...

DD I do not know the monetary value of the 2 sponsorships that you refer to nor do I know the circumstances for Phoenix withdrawing sponsorship after several years as the major sponsor. I do know that the Brownes Naming Rights sponsorship ended when Brownes were sold to an Eastern States company.
As I said before major sponsors such as Ground Naming Rights do not come easily especially at WAFL level. That is not to say the club has not been actively pursuing one or more.
But as DF has pointed out the club is likely to be the beneficiary of a substantial deal being done by the Eagles in respect to the Redevelopment.
A glance at the club website lists all corporate sponsors of the Perth Football Club and someone can correct me if I am wrong with some evidence that sponsorship has not increased over the past 3 or 4 years other the changes already mentioned.
