Sacko wrote: Yep sounded like a good win. I get the feeling though that teams like Swans, West and a few others have improved on last year not to mention Tigers and East Freo. I think it's going to be a tough year though the positives for us seem to be that we have improved too. Still no genuine key forward again with only McInnes at the moment. Stack needs to really step up and when Tunbridge comes back that will give us another option and Busher of course but pointless planning anything with him. Hopefully by the midway point we are in a position to challenge

Sacko it was a good win but lets put it in perspective,it was against Peel who in the first year of alignment wont be this powerhouse some think they will, they are the reigning wooden spooners, next season when the alignment is in full swing thats when they may be much harder to beat.

On the game it was great to see the recruits all perform,Murray for mine was the standout,Leyendekkers has a bit of a way to go imo.
Risol showed that he is more than capable as the key CHB,probably the best we have seen there for quite a while.Sketcher did some good thing and can only get better.
Reimers was good and in bursts showed what flashy things he can do,proved yesterday that forward is his postion, will only get better as the weeks progress.
Locally,Matthew Boyle looks to have a bright future, very good game on debut.
Ali Smith was outstanding.

I also think a key forward was lacking yesterday and hopefully the club can sort something out because whilst we may have got away with it yesterday against one of the weaker teams in the comp i cant see Bevan at CHF against the likes of Claremont and Swans being a dominant move.

All in all a positive start to the season and we are in a real good position going 2 up because South at home should be another 4 points,Souths are certainly not top 4 material.
Also by this round hopefully Butler and Ash Smith will be available to replace a couple of players...and we all know who they are!

30plus you dont think that Butler and Ash Smith will be lining up for WC in coming weeks?.

No i reckon because it will be the AFL's second round most of those injured Eagles will be back for that round i think those 2 and particualy Smith will struggle to get a game,Butler may play round 1 for the Eagles.

And Souths have lost last years Bernie Naylor medalist Ben Saunders for a month or more with a broken collarbone so that should be 4 points in the bag.

I think reimers will unlucky to get rubbed for that! It was a look away elbow to the body of a bloke that had just cleaned him up and was laying on him. The kick was reversed to the peel player but I think if the ump thought it washead high or worse a 50m penalty against would of been awarded and it wasn't!

30+ would you leave Leyendekkers in the side and play 2 ruckmen?

I agree he is young and a work in progress, but I did think his debut for us was impressive. He loves a contest, he is mobile and took a couple of great grabs and has good skill. I thought his work when he went forward was very good.

The skills of Murray has been a surprise (pleasant) for me.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.

Yes i would leave him in...for now.
Murray at times if the game dictated could sit in the goal square and cause a few headaches for oppsition whilst Leyendekkers rucked.
This of course would be a ploy used only every now and then.
I would like to see the 2 big fellas take more overhead marks around the ground..i reckon they dropped a couple of sitters yesterday.

A good summary 30+. I also think it was a positive start and apart from the expected good performances from players like Bateman, Reimers, Ali Smith, Hodgey, Bevan, I was heartened by the showing of players like Murray, Risol, Sketcher, Leyendekers and the 2 new kids who showed that they were not out of place.
The real positive for me that the recruitment of talls who seem to be filling our definciencies in that area and who will, IMO, improve with each game. Still a height problem up forward but now that we have a depth of talls I think that we can develop good tall targets.
The other positive is that besides the good debuts by Boyle & Sinclair there are 4 or 5 other kids knocking on the door for an opportunity.
One step at a time but I will be looking forward to this team developing into a formidable opponent for the more fancied clubs.

It's great to have a win and there were positive signs from certain players on the weekend. But let's not get carried away. South's IMO will be a tough game that we will have to be switched on for.

Theres no doubt about that and thats for every other game as well and i agree there was some positive signs.

I thought that we played our rings out and led from start to finish yet we only won by 11 points and could have quite easily lost the game Peel(like us) missed a couple of opportunities late in the game when it could have counted.
The feel from the game was we should have won by 6 or 7 goals in my opinion.
That is the worry for me going forward...is how much more than what we showed on Saturday can we give.

Do we have to much more up our sleeve??
Time will tell of course and a win is certainly better than a losss!!
