Peter Kukura‎Perth Football Club
Turramurra, New South Wales, Australia · May 12 at 9:57pm ·

"I can clearly recall going to Lathlain Park in about 1964 to see The Demons take on Swan Districts. There was a howling wind blowing to the railway end. Perth kicked into the wind in the first quarter and a Perth player took a mark on the left center wing early in the game and went back to take his kick. He booted the ball into the wind, but the breeze got hold of it and the ball actually flew back over the head of the kicker and landed about 15 metres BEHIND him. Can you believe that? From that point on, all kicks into the wind were dribbled along the ground and only a solitary point was scored into the breeze in the entire game. That was a rushed behind by Swans who eventually won the game. But the Demon's golden era was on the horizon."

Nice post I thought.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Another from the same guy.

I was a young teen kid during the 1966-1968 premiership era. I saw most of the games and all three GFs. I once sent Barry Cable a long fan letter. He rang the home phone in reply. GOD called me that night. He gave me his number and invited me to call him whenever I wished. I called him regularly. On one occasion we chatted for about 2 hours. The night before one of the Grand finals, I called him to say good luck. He assured me Perth would win ... by 2 to 3 goals. I think we won by 15 points ... exactly as he predicted. We finished the call that night with Barry saying to me " I'll see you tomorrow. Actually, I won't see you ... but I hope you see a hell of a lot of me". I did, he won the Simpson for best on ground. Barry Cable - what a man.

must have broke his heart seeing Cabes capt/coach the EP premiership over his beloved demons in 1978. A nice read TFAF, certainly we had some real characters with class, and it was an era worth bottling wasn't it.

I was at Lathlain in March 1978. Blazing hot day, Perth Vs North Melbourne both last season Premiers, Barassi coaching NM. Reportedly a crowd of 10,200. Perth got the first goal, Murray Cooper Vs David Dench, Perth led all day then North pegged them back and won by I think 4 points but Murray Cooper once told me it was 2 points. He swapped jumpers with Dench at the end of the game...

North Melb 20.13 (133) beat Perth 17.27 (129)

I was there that day too. Demons kicked themselves out of it didn't they. Loved these games when they happened. Was a rare time to see my Kangaroos live. I remember seeing East Perth beat Essendon at Perth Oval too. Great stuff and it made you look forward to the pre-season.

Everyone thought in the 80's that it was just a matter of time before we got back to what it was like in the 70's,winning games, playing finals/GF's etc.
Here we are 2015 and we are still waiting!

Lots of mediocre recruiting, bad appointments and average admins along the way has contributed to the failure.

The future looks bleak for the PFC,cant see anything happening any time soon.

sorry to say it 30plus but i wasn't impressed when subi played you guys a few weeks ago. imo Perth is really lacking quality cattle at the moment...i thought the effort was certainly there but the game plan of pushing numbers behind the ball at every occasion to stop subi scoring made for an ugly game as perth didn't have anyone in the front half to take advantage of turnovers. it wasn't a pretty spectacle that's for sure.
