Sitting back watching last years 'on the couch; and heard some interesting points of view from some very f respected football commentators / analyst's.

The interiview was healy, dunstall and sheahan interviewing damian hardwick after their win over geelong last year. the primary focus of the interview was basically the death of the key position player in the game as we know AFL. The primary reference was towards Port Adelaide who was so successful with one of the smallest teams in the comp. In addition to this it was proclaimed that the 'traditional' method of a big tall strong marking yet slow moving forward or likewise mobile half back were becoming less and less effective against the all running, jumping, multiple position back, midfield and forward crummer. Gray, westoff and winggard to name but a few!

So where does this leave a Pfc in 2015? 30+ I know you wont like this but is the WAFL at a stage where a team might be able to perform with this same method? Pfc maybe? Probably not is my estimation but definitely a consideration of the modern coaching fraternity I expect, Yes it does help to have 6'payers that can play midfield but likewise its as is important to have smalls that can kick goals also. Lets not forget the impact that medhurst had when he went to Claremont....

It appears that the overall opinion of the football fraternity is that the preferred option is the same size player in all positions (except ruck of course) meaning all players can run, jump, crumb and mark regardless of position, height or speed.........

Port Adelaide do have a pretty handy tall forward in Jay Shultz though.

Thanks for your thoughts Lucifer.
IMHO I think you do need talks as well.
1 or 2 up forward depending on set up.
Down back we definitely need to cover the tall forwards.
Other WAFL teams seem to have them e.g. Smith at EP.

Not sure we all need to be 195cm.

Whatever our system it needs to simple and we need to implement it.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!

Lucifer lets put it in perspective.

Port do have 2 talls in Shultz (6'3") and Whesthoff (6'5") in there forward line.

There smalls have exceptional talent, good foot skills, great speed,a couple of them can take a decent grab overhead, they are very smart footballers.
They also have a decent midfield pumping the ball forward.

Its no coincidence that in our last finals appearance (1997) we had Brett Spinks at Centre half Forward.

This club has tried for more than a decade playing with a smallish forward line and it just hasnt worked or when we have had a tall they have been young and inexperienced.
We need a good mix of talls and smalls in the forward line.

It would be great if this club of ours could go into a season with 2 decent rucks,a couple of talls down back that could hold there own and 1 or 2 talls in the forward line that could take a grab, kick a goal and be a focal point....it would make a huge difference.

If David Johnson, Chris Billings and Brent Latch are able to play down back would we be able to use J Morton as a swingman. He seems like a player that could go forward and grab a goal or two.

Did Latch play yesterday AFL? If so how did he go?
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

With wafl being played on larger grounds by less fit players I reckon a good tall is worth more at wafl level than afl level where the ball is generally surrounded by 40 players at most stages of the game
