Well he didn't get the support McDud did.
Compare the recruiting.

This Club has seriously gone backwards since the night we allowed SF to beat us when we were up by 9 goals at 3/4 qtr time at Freo Oval the year Leon Davis played for us.

A stubborn game plan that was never going to work at PFC because we are nowhere near being WAFL fit. And a lack of ability to adapt the game plan when challenged.

Look at the fitness of some of our so called potential, hardly fir for Reserves level let alone league level.

Here we go another apologist for the PFC who has been mediocre since 77, mistakes have been made by the clowns running the joint since then and unfortunately the hole has been dug so deep that there is no way out.

And Jarman in his second season had Ferguson, Armstrong, Young, Cook, Moody, Thornton, Mzungu, still. Plus he gained MacDougall. Conca, Busher, Smith came through from the ranks that year, too. He never whinged about not having support of board. That was one thing he didn't whinge about. Didn't we lose our first nine games in Jarman's second year? We got belted by East Perth at home (I think it was 100 points and more), and then he said he was leaving for family reasons. 100 point lose!!! He wasn't the messiah, though he had a great first year and we enjoyed some wins. His second year had nothing to do with the quality of players he had, or any suggestion he wasn't receiving or had not received support.

Ok so we had a mass exodus of players, what did the club do to at least replace a couple of those guys with experienced recruits??
Nothing!
You lose players every year and if you do nothing to replace then the results will show that!

Time after time this has been the case,a good season followed up by a lousy season.

After only 8 posts you obviously have an agenda, where have your posts been through all these lean years,im sure could have posted excuse after excuse before now because thats what some at the PFC thrive on!

Posted under various names, keep forgetting my password etc. At least have the decency to play the ball and not the man. God almighty, surely loyalty to the demons is showed by more than posts on here. I say a couple of things....and slam. Shut down. No facts wanted here. My god, how could the club possibly recruit to replace those guys in 1998. I know who we got to replace those guys and they weren't up to it. One guy from Claremont (skinny guy, tall), who was OK, and Dan Maher, Paul Maher's brother. Can't remember others (I think we got Capewell from East Freo, too). In 1999, we had a couple of useful ones come through from the colts - Davis, Glass, Bateman, White and a few others. Had a good year, by our recent standards, and got Cable and Bertram back. Some are telling me we never recruit, others are telling me we recruited so well under McMahon and that he received recruiting support unlike Jarman. Jarman had the best team we have had since 1997 or 1999. And that includes his second year. He recorded 9 straight loses. McMahon 14 straight or so. I don't want either coaching. Chaps, I made a post that looked toward the future; and you guys drag us back into the past!

DD that's an insult to Jane.
I reckon she could play better.

Capewell was a good player in his prime.
By the time he got to Lathlain he was done.

You can't count Davis, Glass, Bateman, White etc(White was drafted 2001)they played a handful of games and then were drafted.

Class of 1999 (remember they played in a Colts premiership) were Davis, Bateman, Glass, Hargreave, Stevens and Kelly.

In 1998 no effort was made to genuinely replace any of those player losses and therefore improve on our prelim final of 97.
Smart recruiting of 3 or 4 players was all it needed, not hacks or ressies players from other clubs but smart recruiting.
It just didnt happen.

Jarmans list in his second year was ordinary to say the least.
His round 3 team of 2009 compared to his team of round 3 2010 there were 13 different players,no top shelf recruits, just a pedestrian team.

After 1999 look what happened in 2000,probably our worse season in our history and there again failing to build on an alright year,Garry Armstrong was thrown under a bus that year, what recruiting did the club do for him after all those player losses from 99...ZILCH!!

BTW you asked "So, where do we sit moving into season 2015"
Your post got responses and you dont like what posters have stated in reply.

The Colts flag of 1999 cost us six players to the AFL Draft. Those six played very few league games. Only Darren Glass remained in Perth following that Draft.
Having finished 6th in 1999 we followed that up with 9th in 2000 and 7th in 2001, then 5th in 2002, 8th in 2003, 6th in 2004 and 8th again in 2005.
We have very little to show for that Colts success. Gary Armstrong was handed a poisoned chalice and was left out on the line to dry and Magro had a different agenda to the club.
In six seasons we were unable to produce quality players in numbers and the transition paths became clogged.. still are somewhat. We are just unable to produce enough players of WAFL quality to progress through the ranks like other clubs (eg SF, SD, Claremont) who can step up into league quickly and compliment them with astute recruiting. We lose a lot of young players who become frustrated by lack of opportunity because of the clogging at the top
