Work is underway now at last. Looks like it will be a very good facility judging by these computer generated images. One thing though! I thought Claremont were going to play a lot of home matches at other grounds in 2013 but according to the fixtures it's business as usual.

The virtual pictures look great LH & it is well overdue at Claremont Oval & pretty much all WAFL venues (except maybe Leederville & Joondy).
But for that to happen at Basso for instance Swans would need a Martin Whitely or Michelle Roberts to be Premier or to be in a marginal electorate of the government at the time!!

Hahaha yeah Barnett played colts for Claremont I was told.

Basso is great mate. Don't ever change it. (Well maybe the change rooms) Best ground in the league.

Actually might be material for a new thread.

Pictures look great. Definitly looking forward to going there once it's all finished.

How long do Claremont not play at their ground for?

Yeah, that's what I would like to know also.

It must be the entire 2014 season they play away because the fixtures are all listed as being played at Claremont in 2013.

Unless that is subject to change.

I read a while back that they were thinking of playing at the Showgrounds and also playing 1 or 2 at local grounds within their zone as a promo idea.

It would be quite easy to set up a section on here with details about each club, contact details, short history, and facilities. We could also link Ron's articles on players from these pages.

Mike.

I think it's probably just me that likes the old historic stands, the new developments and the classic turnstyles and gates. I even like the sound of the turnstyle clicking over.....it reminds me of footy...I think I might be slightly eccentric though

But I know one thing for sure....an awful venue for spectators won't get many spectators most weeks.

Nah LH you're not the only one who thinks like that mate, im not sure of your age but im still in my mid 30's & i came to love WAFL footy when it was at its peak in the late 70's & early 80's
..I still get excited everytime i get out of the car & walk up to the gates at Basso, hearing the sounds of the umpires whistle blowing, the sounds of the turnstyles clicking, the sounds of the roar of the crowd echoing through the historic stands as a player takes a great mark or kicks a team lifting goal
..I actually feel sorry for those so called footy "supporters" (more like theatre goers) who have come to football during the WCE & Freo era as they have missed what football is truly about at your local clubs with that tribal feel about it rather than the slick, sanitised version you get these days from the AFL games!!

Yeah mate. Cheers for that. Yeah, I'm in my 40's.

I know the WAFL can't be what it was but I'm sure it can still be something really good.

We just need a bit more financial assistance/compensation from the WAFC, much more promotion from the clubs themselves, the WAFC and the media and maybe a few more of the X-Factor kids making it at WAFL level when not drafted. A few excitement machines to get people through the turnstyles. I know Swans have them this year. South do too. Subi escaped the draft and have them also.

I know the fight's not over yet. We've just got to find a way to get a few more along to the games.

There is something special about the suburban footy grounds for sure.

Having lived over east now for 10 years you start to live listen to the League games on the radio. The crowds seem to be more alive at the suburban grounds, and the commentators love it too. Some of the crowds are only WAFL size crowds during the season.

As for Aussie rules, the facilities are fairly basic. Quite a few people talk about Football Park in Canberra hosting games of 10,000+ people, however it has since gone. About the best NEAFL ground would be the Queanbeyan Tigers ground in NSW.

It gets a good atmosphere, and Sydney Swans reserves have been done over a few times there ;)

According to Wikipedia, the black & white stripes have a certain WAFL connection, whilst the red and white team (Eastlake Demons) usually wear black and red!
