The big talking point about this years hit out was those tactics at the end of the race. The alleged breach has been called unsportsmanlike by many during this week. Personally I can't see the winning team being stripped of the victory and would be a bit stiff if that were the outcome. Some have s.uggested Coulthard was ordered to deliberately slow down behind the safety car. Another story was debris on the track was the reason. Depends which people wish to believe. It shouldn't impact on the winners of the race. Will be interesting listening to the news Sunday morning.

and one would think the questions will be did the incident affect the podium finishes and can it be proved it was in fact a directive from the Pit
really it gifted Van Gisbergen more advantage than any other car by making room

Interesting news filtering through this morning. Apparently McLaughlin, along with co-driver Alex Premat will remain the winners. But race stewards have accused some team mates of some very dodgy tactics in the closing stages.
After an investigation the stewards have accused the team of using one of it's vehicles to slow the rest of the field down.
That there lies the problem in the race officials have strong suspicions but no proof of Team management directing the team to drive slowly to create a gap sufficient to yield an unfair advantage for both of its cars.
Some of the blame being put on Coulthard at the time for complying with the instruction, even after it must have been clear to him that no debris was on the circuit.
The team has been fined 250,000 smackeroos and apparently the biggest financial penalty in the races history. The second car in the team driven by Coulthard and D'Alberto has been demoted from sixth to 21st place.

WAG I heard Garth Tander interviewed in the week after the race on 6PR and he thought a large fine was pointless because the owner of the team was a billionaire. He didn’t think the winners deserved to have the title taken from them but he thought the team should lose their points from the win and place in the championship. In his opinion that would hurt them more than a large fine.

All understood DD. The old days of ordinary people getting into motor sport are long gone like too many other things! A billionaire team owner losing 250,000 $ is probably like me losing 20 dollars. Wouldn't be a real big deal. However having said that, the race stewards will be crawling all over it and dare say won't tolerate any similar shenanigans in next years race.
