I would think there would be a lot of water to go under the bridge before he plays for SF this year.... GWS would like their player to be a marketable prospect come 2017 would not like to run the risk of long term injury I would think. All the best Cam.

An agreement has been reached with GWS that allows McCarthy to participate in non contact training drills with Souths at Fremantle Oval for the rest of this season. However he is not allowed to play for ANY club this season.

"Cam McCarthy will be limited to non-contact training and not allowed to play for South Fremantle this year under conditions set around his return to football.

The Greater Western Sydney forward will start training for the first time in almost three months with the Bulldogs on Thursday at Fremantle Oval.

The move has been done with the blessing of the Giants, including new football manager Wayne Campbell, and ticked off by the AFL and the AFL Players’ Association.

McCarthy will be kept out of contact drills in a measure designed to protect GWS from losing their prize asset to injury.

League rules also prevent him from playing for another club, either at State or amateur level, while he remains an AFL contracted player.

The 21-year-old was granted indefinite leave in January and allowed to return home to WA, but remains tied to GWS until the end of 2017.

McCarthy’s new program will involve training on the same oval used by Fremantle – the club the young forward wanted to be traded to at the end of last season. He is doing a running and weights program on his own."
