Another year no finals, it's now becoming apparent the host club deal is not fairing well for freo footy, both EF and SF are sliding into obscurity , my fear is with young talent drained away with the alignment and with the clubs dire financial situation with limited. Dollars to attract and keep players we are unlikely to be a power again, what the future holds for us does not bode well for mine , or the comp for that matter.

Could a merger of South & East happen? I say that with concern & hope it would never come to that, just like I wouldnt tolerate a merger with Perth but as crowds dwindle maybe the grand plan of the WAFC is to have 1 Freo team, 1 eastern team ( SD and Pth) one Western team ( Cl & Subi) and one Northern team in WP plus the aligned scum leaving 6 teams, shorter seasons and a product that all serves the AFL, I hope none of this EVER happens but with clowns like Walton and Dorrington having high powered roles anything could happen

In 2025 what we now know as the wafl will not exists, yes club mergers big and other big changes are on the way, what is staggering along at the moment is a dead man walking.

Agree Astro.....It is not all doom and gloom predicated by a few posters on our competion you never give up and you need to start to work and operate in smarter manner. That also means that the WA football bosses will nee to look at the concessions that have been granted to to the aligned clubs to make it a more even playing field ie the numbers of AFL listed players playing, out of zone players elogble to be recruited etc.

G7 clubs that have shown a real committment to challenge the two aligned clubs pyshically and mentally for the whole duration of games this year have had good sucess against them ie WP , Subi and Swans. They can be beaten and are not invincible.
Our season is done and dusted and it is dissapointing as we promised so much that I believed we had the squad to take us back into finals action this year :( Unfortunatley far too inconsistent with with poor patches in games really hurting as all thru the year. Got to play more youngsters to give them the taste of league football for the remainder of the year , would love to see Panizza back in the league team just gives us hardness and grunt around the ball , the Stewart brothers are hard nosed little midfielders who have been in good form in the reserves. Laurino , B Matera are others.
I have been really impressed with Dominic Worrell playing off a hb in the past few weeks.
Keep playing the youngsters , plan to recruit in 2016 what we need as I think we have a great crop of youngsters coming thru the reserves who are sitting two games clear at the top of the ladder.
Got to keep blooding the youngsters in preparation for 2016..

Another terrible indictment on the competition on Saturday was the reserves score line 144 SF to 14 Peel. Peel did not score their two goals until the 20 min mark of the 3rd Quarter. It was only due to a few errors from our backman that alowed them those two goals, otherwise they could have gone goaless :)
The point I am trying to make is that already promising and talented local young players who cannot see an opportunity at Peel are and will continue to walk away from this club? Their league team had 17 Dockers listed playing. Winton and Hancock , Mathers and Lawler were the only local products playing. The other players recruited from outside their zone were Jetta , Jones , Bootsma , Ugle.

Where is the local development in that? it is a joke WAFL DECISION MAKERS  !

Not too sure where you are coming from with this one Dwert , your first post says its not all doom and gloom, then fllow up with one that demonstrates a terrible indictment of the current comp.

Its all very well to talk about a great crop of youngsters coming through, how many times ahve we havd great colts and youngsters ?? its means even less now because they will get sucked into the two franchise alignments if they stay and gone east otherwise.

Im not sure where all this recruiting dough is coming from because our finances are in very bad shape, we have sucked up 700,000 bucks in 5 - 6 years, the football department cannot continue to sustain the spending it has done in the past decade or so going forward. this years annual report could be ugly there was a mild turn around last year but not much.

WAFC priority is to sustain the dockers and eagles as much as possible, they have no interest in the G7 , the G7 is devoid of power as demonstarted as it steamrolled with the alignment, with both AFL teams sitting atop the AFL ladder all is well.

When either the eagles or dockers reserves run out on WAFL GF or perhaps both the few that care will hardly be noticed.

Bazza just putting my thoughts out there mate and not trying to be too negative thats all. Agree that it will be interesting to see if any steady turn around in our finances?
But we just cannot put up the white flag and say it is all too hard.

I think as a number of posters have stated already the Coach is a huge improvement on Haselby , it was just unfortunate that Haselby stayed for the extra year he should have been pushed out the door sooner as he has done damage to the list that Curley has had to improve this year.
Astute recruitment is needed in recent years Sellar(already indicated he is going back to SA) , Grima , Tighe ETC have hardly been worthy recruits? Spend money on good quality and get bang for your buck. Subi have done it quite well. IMO we will only possibly lose 3 or 4 maximum this year from our list ie Ah Chee , Kade Stewart...longer shots Branchi and Pickett?
Retirements in White , Mugumbwa , Saunders possibly K Hams will leave some holes to fill but it will free some dollars for recruitment you would think?
The club needs to get on the front foot and target the home grown SF products who are possibly coming off AFL lists ie Kersten , Shaw , Ah Chee etc But target quality not quantity. If there are better credentialed recruits out there go and get them.

Actually Sean Tighe was one of the better pickups

No doubt about having to look for top ups and get some returnees signed if possible or available

Positive side is that our defence has improved vastly this year we do have some hope there
