Sad to hear on 6PR last night of the passing of Michael Cockie at only 49 years old. I was a kid when he was playing and from what i remember was another of the many brilliant indigenenous players at South in that era, Hardie said he could have been a a real star, but not sure if he was cut down by injury and have any Sth people got some memories they can share?

Condolences to Michael,s Family and friends. A good footballer who will always be remembered by all. Unlucky to miss out on the SF Aboriginal team of the century but certainly considered worthy of inclusion.

Sad to hear that news SD I remember Michael Cockie playing at South Freo in the early 80's used to wear the number 9 ..he made the state squad in early 83 vs SA but didnt end up making the final team. Was a wingman/half forward with plenty of skill along with other aboriginal players at South at the same time in Michael, Rioli, Vigona, Campbell, Roe, Winmar, Stokes & many others. I think he is also the father of former $ubi & WCE Adam if I am not mistaken.

Yeh i think you are right BH , he is Adams father and i remember that State game in 83, i still have some autographs from afterwards, we sat on the outer side and all i remember was Gary Shaw taking a big hang near us, and i do remember Cockie making the state squad too
