VALE JOHN TODD
Tuesday, June 4, 2024 - 10:47 AM
South Fremantle Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Club Legend, John Todd.A giant of WA Football, Todd was a young footballing phenomenon for the Bulldogs, winning the 1955 Sandover Medal at just seventeen years of age.
Playing 132 games for South Fremantle before succumbing to persistent injury, Todd won the Club Best & Fairest in 1955, 1958 & 1961 - in one of the strongest periods in Club history.
He would represent WA 13 times and was selected as All-Australian in 1961.

Todd would transition to coaching, and in doing so, became legendary in WA Football.

He Captain-Coached the Bulldogs in 1959 and Coached outright in 1966-68 and 1996-1998.

In between, he coached East Fremantle to the 1974 Premiership and Swan Districts to Premierships in 1982-84 and 1990, with a two-year break as coach of the West Coast Eagles 1988-89.In 1997, Todd led his beloved Bulldogs to the famous 1997 WAFL Premiership over archrivals East Fremantle. John Todd is one of WA's most decorated individuals, with AFL Hall of Fame, WA Hall of Fame (Legend), South Fremantle Hall of Fame (Legend), and South Fremantle & Swan Districts Life Membership, to name only a selection.

Today is a sad day for the Bulldog family, and WA Football at large.
Today we celebrate the life of a legend. South Fremantle offers condolences to all members of the Todd family at this sad time.

ah JT - sad not to see you around
a brilliant player who would have won the most ever Sandovers' if it weren't for a knee injury so bad it almost stopped him cold
but he came back basically kicking only on his other leg which was quite remarkable in itself
he was a wonderful player with a raking dropkick
and as a coach he initially struggled a bit but once he got a hold of the caper
well the rest speaks for itself
transformed clubs by action hence the premierships at different clubs
the only blemish that way was at the arsehole VFL club which at the time was a pimple on the arse of WA footy
(still is in my opinion fecken pricks)
condolences to the girls and boys in the family here they'd be struggling a bit I'd say
will be a big weekend in two weeks time for the great man

WA footy just lost a colossus

Following the passing of WA Football Legend John Todd this week, the WAFL competition will recognise the significant contribution that John made to WA Football during this weekend’s round of WAFL.

All WAFL players and officials across League, Reserves and Colts will wear black arm bands at matches this weekend.

In addition to this, WAFL League games will observe one minute’s silence to honour one of WA’s greatest ever footballers, John Todd.
