Though I have never been a lover of East Perth, I have to admit that at times Souths have benefitted greatly from some trades from them. Of course the one EP player who had the most influence of Souths was Mal Brown., Though he only played 10 games in the Red and White in 1977, his influence came later as coach of the club. A major influence at the club.
Then next was Craig Edwards. A player that EP allegedly said was not hard enough at the footy. His influence  at Souths was great. A Sandover winner, A premiership player. A two time club F&B. 163 games. A Hall of Famer at the club. Leading goal kicker. A very influential player.
The Willie Roe, Played 87 games for Souths. A rangy wingman who had tremendous pace, skill and aerial ability. A big plus for the club.
John ( Irish ) Hayes was another player we received who had a great influence on how the Doggies played their game at that stage.
Barry Quick, played 22 games for the club. Mostly as a ruckman. Though not the influence of the previously mentioned, at times was much better than average.
Then Paul Arnold ,played 40 games, mostly as a ruckman. At times very influential. But seldom the star.
The club have certainly had some gems come their way.

We've had a few go the other way as well - Stan Magro , Ross Kerr , Clayton Collard , Richard Graham
Craig Edwards I don't think played in a premiership he wasn't around in 1997.
Willie's father Billy was an absolute star in the NT

Willies father played in the 1956 East Perth premiership. The mid season swap of Willie for Ross Kerr was a good one for Soufs but not so for the Royals.Kerr was seviceable but Willie was very young and only going to get better.

You are correct about Craig Edwards Southy he played at SF from 1984-92 so missed both the 1980 & 97 flags.
Derek Collard was one who moved from SF - EP.
Joe McKay was attempting to transfer to EP before the 1980 season but SF wouldnt clear him he then played in the Premiership side that year.

Geoff Gillies was an ex EP player who ended up at SF in the 80s after stints at SU & CD in SA and Rob Solin was another that played at both sides too.

The Joe McKay bit went on for a season or so but besides being such a good player he was very much liked by all at South and there were plenty in his ear too
started out as a deep key forward but put him 20 to 30 metres out and he'd miss everything by miles - put him 60 to 70 metres out and he'd put it in dead centre and clear the goal line by plenty nearly every time
Booming kick and a very good mark agile

yes wasn't sure whether to include Geoff Gillies after the Subiaco stint - he was way more than serviceable too in games for us

Rob was having a bit of a mercenary stint at clubs , there was EP , EF , SF & EP again , like his brother a bloody good bloke and one you'd like to have in the trenches beside you

Wasnt it when Mal Atwell became President at EP that a number of players departed due to having their contracts monetary wise diminished due to their financial position at the time and were cleared for decent coin?

SF certainly did well out of it- Edwards, Arnold, Hayes etc
Kickett, Thorne & Scott to CL
Spencer, Sparks, Carpenter to SU
Allen to SD
Michalczyk to WP
Solin, Nolan to EF

Thats just off the top of my head but there were others as well and some moved to the VFL as well.

He and his brother were just like the sparks, thought they were better than they were, although in the Mcknights case parental influence was apparent!
