If they played at Optus with double the crowd they got at Freo then it would have been at around $500,000 in ticket sales. Minus Venue Wests $100,000 then they would still be $400,000 in front. What I can't understand is why was it not viable to hold it there. Do Venue West charge $100,000 just for the use of the ground and all other costs like cleaners, security and people on the gate are extra cost. They still needed some of these people for Freo. Am I missing something?

And all whilst allowing an organisation (franchise) they own to accumulate $50 million+ in the bank.

RUS not only that but you would have happily paid a bit extra like $30 to watch at Optus rather than the astonishing $25 they slugged you to watch it in complete discomfort at Fremantle, so they would have made a bit more there as well along with a crowd of up to 35k being allowable rather than 11k at Freo of which nearly 1k didnt even bother officially turning up!...I guess they let their feet do the talking (as did the large contingent of EP crew there who left straight after the Ressies!)....And yet a few muppets have the gall to call it a success!!!

Yes BH I would have paid up to $30 for a ticket. They say the atmosphere was great down at the port which makes things more exciting but only because the game was close. If it had been one-sided like the last couple of grand finals then it would have been another story. Put 25,000 people at Optus watching the same game and the atmosphere would have been terrific. I was barracking for South on the day but I would have preferred to have been watching it live at the best stadium rather than on TV.

Not sure how you arrive at the conclusion that 1000 never turned up.

Health Dept capped the attendance at 10, 994, but the WAFL only ever released 9500 tickets for actual sale to the public which all sold in quick time. The WAFC didn't max out the freeloader remaining to the cap of 10,994, they ended up holding back on around 1000, the other thing to note is not all of those corporate were scanned in at the gate either. The actual total available would not of been more than 10,500.

As for East Perth reserves leaving , big deal 37 people who had been there since 8am decided to leave, as if they are going hang around through a colts game with a celebration to have, and there were some still there during the league anyway.

You really need to get over it, If I were you I would be getting a plan together to host the game at Bassendean in 2021 , because its already announced the game will be tendered out.

great news, selling the game off to the highest bidder may see it played at Hands Oval, Wanneroo Showgrounds or Kingsway reserve.
gee the WAFC have covered themselves in Glory in recent times.

So the GF's soul is to be sold to the highest bidder, what if Claremont Council decide it has 30 pieces of silver from the ratepayers coffers to host the GF, how awesome would that be, 4000 odd capacity what a great event that would be, same for Lathlain or better yet Rushton park!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going to approach York Shire to make a bid for next year, I could walk to the oval.

FMD, it's the dumbest idea I've heard in years, Surely a decision should not be made by the current incompetent commission, it should be left to the new one who hopefully is at least marginally less incompetent.

I think the Commission can't stand Burswood because they honestly thought they were entitled to run it

I don't blame them Ark because without football that stadium would be a white elephant, and had they been given control i'm sure we would not have had the farcical situation of playing a GF at a suburban ground.

To be honest Ark, I dont think Venues West want the WAFL at Optus, unless its a sell out they arent interested, if they really wanted it they would of let the WAFL GF be played there for free or a greatly reduced price - fat chance of that, Venues west even wanted 20K to play at Joondalup.

Optus are fine with the AFL teams because the Eagles and Dockers still had to fork out their season fee to them even though it was empty most of the year, and even then all the seats are pre sold and neither club refunded much of that, catering would of taken a big hit though.

Anyway I am more than glad that SFFC will get a portion of the $250k profit of the gate made last weekend as will all the participating clubs because we got nothing from last years GF after the league lost $120K on the day.

And boy we need it after a year like 2020!
