For those of us who are appalled with our treatment of refugees held in Naru should be even more concerned now that the Nauru Government has ordered Médecins Sans Frontières to stop providing mental health services on the island of Nauru. Not only the refugees there but also to the residents of Nauru.

I thought that news a bit strange upon hearing it. Apparently the msf services are no longer required. Would have been fantastic to have heard what replacement alternative services were being put in place? One would have thought alternatives would be installed first? Not unless there has been a quiet change in Australia's position and will allow patients to come here. However that will put pressure on our own understaffed services!

The Oz government is quite happy to hold it's nose to ignore the stench emanating from the Nauru government, just as it does for the Cambodian equivalent - which both border on being dictatorships.

You’re right Sean, Australia should stop giving all that money to Nauru. Fly the back door trespassers back to where they come from so they can apply to enter Australia legally. Then spend the $1B on people here that need a hand. But that is racist and politically incorrect and I don’t give a rat’s if it seems that way.

Fact # 1

They are not illegals. They did not enter Australia unlawfully. They are LEGALLY able to apply for refugee status on arrival in Australia.

Fact # 2

The vast majority of those who are in Nauru have been found to be genuine refugees.


I am thoroughly sick and tired of the likes of Scott Morrison et al treating these people disgracefully. There is not a scintilla of truth or integrity in their claim of being motivated by saving lives at sea. If there was they would be able to show that they voted to support the so called "Malaysian solution". Instead what you will is their base hypocrisy purely and solely motivated by base racist politics.

From 1996 onward history will show just how racist the Coalition governments led by John Howard et al were and their sole motivation was to get elected.

Sean...Rudd theoretically closed it when he came to power in 2007, Gillard re-opened it in 2012...look in your own backyard if you're going to point the finger. If the Nauru government wants to impose certain domestic policies on all peoples on the island whether they be right or wrong then that's their prerogative.

Typical Labor and Greens attitude. We have to please everyone no matter what the financial cost. Labor in the meantime happy for Australia to prosper from trade with China but turn a blind eye to the human rights violations carried out by China everyday,not to mention their bullish takeover of the South China Sea and now encroaching on Australia's doorstep throwing money at tiny pacific nations so they can establish military bases there.
