Thanks to those who filled in the gaps on many questions I had about the Martin Place shooting on the other post.

I’ve got some more if anyone can help?

How do you get a gun when your under the nose of all levels of policing in your state and country?
If not legally, how do you get a gun illegally? Must know the right people?
What do you have to minimally do in this country to get deported?
Who didn’t check with the Iranian government about any fraud that he may have committed in that country?
What department, what agency and which people dropped the ball on all his residency and other applications?
How can you change your name?
How can you stay on the dole for so long?

And my BIG one is: why are people saying this guy had a mental problem WHEN he has 1000’s of followers on facebook, HAD multitudes of customers for his faith healing, HAS had at least 3 partners, HAS had many lawyers supporting his case, HAS been able to talk to many government agencies without anybody raising concerns on his mental stability?

Saying he had a mental problem is just a cop out as far as I am concerned.
He might have been very cleverly different but mental he was not.

Seems like Tony is asking the same things.

Tony Abbott wants to know why Sydney hostage taker Man Haron Monis had a gun licence -http://www.news.com.au/national/tony-abbott-wants-to-know-why-sydney-hostage-taker-man-haron-monis-had-a-gun-licence/story-fncynjr2-1227158943800

One would think a Royal Commission is looming.

Bill Shorten said he didn’t want to see a “blame game”, but he understood people wanted to understand how Monis was out in the community.

Good questions devonleigh.....

I can answer 1 for you mate, as a gun owner in WA (I shoot pistols regularly at a pistol club) I can tell you it wants hard to get a gun licence. I just had to buy a gun and present to the cops with what I had, they took my details and made it clear as I have no convictions I am fine to have a gun. That was 8 years ago, and other than sending me a bill each year to update my licence, I don't see or hear from the cops. All I have to do is shoot at my club 6 times per year.

Now as a sport I thought that was easy to get into, however as a member of the public it concerns me that it was that easy to get a gun.

From there every time I buy a new weapon I just present my licence to the dealer, he gives me paperwork and then I take that to the cops to have the new guns details added to my licence. I asked the cops what happens if I don't tell them about a new purchase, their response is sometimes they find out through shop information, however they rely on the public to do the right things and advise them of new weapons.

So as you can see, its fairly easy to get a gun in Australia, and that's not using the black market, that's going through the correct channels

Correct me if I am wrong PH but didn't we have a gun show just recently in Perth?? WTF is that all about? With all the talk about Guns over the last few years how on earth can any government, local authority allow a gun show these days?

Yes there was one recently, the difference between Australia and the USA when they talk about Gun Shows is in Australia its basically an expo, where you can find out about all kinds of guns and how they work. In the states they allow you to shoot the guns at an expo, also in the states you don't need a licence, I was in Tombstone a couple of years ago and watched a gentleman walk into a corner store, check out the guns under the counter and then buy a gun and bullets and walk out of the shop again like he was buying cigarettes.

Just one point though guys to consider when talking about guns. Guns don't kill people, the idiots using them kill people.

When they don't use them safely guns are as dangerous as anything in life, but used safely and stored correctly they are totally safe.

Just because you have a licence doesn't mean you will be safe, I have seen idiots at firing ranges look down the barrel of their gun to make sure all the bullets have fired properly.....rather than just ejecting the cartridge and seeing what is left
