Slapped a 80% Tariff on our Barley

WTO say it will take 2 yrs to resolve the dispute! so much for them.

We supply China with 70% of their barley with the balance coming from Canada and Ukraine.

Given we are the worlds biggest exporter of Barley I really wonder if China will be able to source enough Barley to meet demand from other nations, local beer producers in china wont be happy about the extra cost, but I guess the CCP will fund that.

Like many you I grew up in a time when there was a level of paranoia abt Japan, the USA and England and the dependence on them for our trade, exports and imports.

The Japanese was for a large part abt WW2 and folks memories, justifiable for many! The USA was due to the all the way stuff and an apparent deputy sheriff mentality which still exists today, sadly for me! The English dependence was just a carryover from our past which I am happy to say has just abt disappeared.

The chinese dependency has me worried not so much for the trade dependence, every country has others that dominate their trade, an economic fact of life in a free trade capitalist market place. What worries me is that we are and are in an ever increasing trade war and are being caught between the US and China.

You could argue that the barley tariff is as a direct result of not the covid inquiry 'demand' but as a result of the donalds silicon chip ban on sales to Huawei. We are an easy target for such a retaliation and I can see it only getting worse.

I cannot imagine that China will stop the trade in iron ore but the farming sector is in fr some interesting and damaging times!

I see this same arse wipe has said Australia is a joke if it thinks we've been vindicated in calling for an international investigation into Covid 19 after the agreement to hold one overnight by over 100 countries. Time this pratt was sent packing back to Peking.

The joke BC is this circus act hand puppet Beijing sent to Australia to be China’s Ambassador to Australia.

Yep...I can imagine what would happen if our Ambassador in Beijing made similar comments about China...his feet wouldn't touch the ground on the way out of the country.
